ocalizado en el Parque Nacional de Tijuca, esta
imponente estatua es, sin duda, el destino más
fascinante en Rio de Janeiro. De hecho, el Cristo
Redentor se ha convertido en el símbolo de la ciudad y
en una de las estatuas más famosas del mundo.
La estatua mide 38 metros y se encuen-
tra en la cima del Cerro del Corcovado, a una al-
tura de 693 metros. Fue instalada en 1931 y dis-
eñada por dos grandes artistas en estilo
art deco
:
Carlos Oswald y Paul Landowski.
Además de su indiscutible belleza y simbolismo
espiritual, el Cristo del Corcovado ofrece una vista
inolvidable de la ciudad. Una vez aquí, es posible ob-
servar la ciudad entera con sus características geográ-
ficas tan distintivas: La bahía, las islas, los montes, las
playas y los exuberantes bosques.
También es posible ver los principales monumen-
tos de la ciudad: El estadio Maracaná, la Bahía de Ni-
teroi, el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, diseñado por
Oscar Niemayer -el arquitecto brasileño más famoso
del mundo-, la Laguna Rodrigo de Freitas, las playas
de Ipanema, Leblon, Copacabana y el cerro Pan de
Azúcar, y la lista puede seguir.
En el pedestal de la estatua se encuentra la ca-
pilla de Nuestra Señora de Aparecida, santa patrona
de Brasil, que también puede ser visitada. En ella se
realizan ceremonias religiosas y es un sitio de vene-
ración para todos los brasileños.
El ascenso es en sí una atracción. Además de la vista,
se puede disfrutar del bosque de Tijuca, y los elevadores
panorámicos ofrecen diversas perspectivas de la ciudad.
Otra forma muy emocionante de visitar la estatua es a
bordo de un helicóptero, desde el cual es posible ver los
hermosos detalles de la escultura.

At the pedestal of the statue is the chapel of
Nuestra Señora de Aparecida, Brazil’s patron saint,
which can also be visited. Some religious ceremo-
nies take place there and it is a place of adoration
for all the Brazilians.
The ascent by itself is an attraction. Besides the
view, you canenjoy the forest of Tijuca, and the pan-
oramic lifts offer several perspectives of the city.
Another very exciting way of visiting the statue is
on board of a helicopter, from which you can watch
the beautiful details of the sculpture.
