l PIAGGIO P.180 Avanti II presurizado, de dos
motores, con un tren de aterrizaje de tres
piezas, propulsores que aportan fuerza de la
parte trasera, es capaz de acoger hasta 11 pasajeros
(incluyendo la tripulación). Ha sido certificado por las
autoridades de la Unión Europea, Estados Unidos,
Canadá y otros países, en la categoría de transporte
para día, noche, VFR, operaciones IFR, y vuelos en
condiciones de hielo.
El Avanti II está diseñado para ofrecer una velocidad
equivalente a las de un jet, por medio de motores
turbohélice. Cuenta con una espaciosa cabina de
extremo comfort, en donde los pasajeros se podrán
mover libremente de punta a punta. La clave para ad-
quirir este tipo de velocidades es por medio de una
cola en T y alas delanteras sin aristas que proporcionan
una mayor superficie de control.
El ala frontal del Avanti II (la cual no es estabili-
zadora ya que no cuenta con superficies de control)
cuenta con aletas que se mueven en sincronía con
las aletas de las alas traseras. La compañía asegura
que el diseño total del P.180 Avanti II permite que
las alas sean un 34% más pequeñas que en los
aviones convencionales y recorre 2 millas por
kilogramo de combustible. Esto es significativa-
mente mejor que las 0,75-1,12 millas por kilo de
combustible de los reactores pequeños similares
Todos los controles son absolutamente manuales
y aerodinámicamente balanceados para liberar
la aeronave de peso excesivo. Los alerones están
completamente sellados en donde existe algún es-
pacio abierto. Los tres ejes están adornados con len-
güetas de ajuste que se controlan electrónicamente.

propellers, turbine-powered aircraft capable
of carrying up to 11 people (including crew).It has

The
Avanti II
is designed to provide jet-likespeed
on turboprop fuel flows, as well as the spaciousness
and comfort of a wide-body, stand-up cabin. Key to
the
Avanti II’s
speed and efficiency is the three
lifting surface configuration and no aerodynamic
compromise. A rear-loaded airfoil for the main wing
was designed, taking advantage of the pusher
configuration’s undisturbed airflow over the main
wing to enhance laminarity.
The
Avanti II’s
forward wing (which is not a ca-
nard because it has no control surfaces) is a fixed
lifting surface which has flaps that move in concert
with main wing flaps. The forward wing pitch angle
is set so that it stalls before themainwing, producing
an automatic nose-down effect; its five degree
negative dihedral keeps the stream wash interfer-
ence clear of theengine inlets, the main wing and
the horizontal stabilizer. The global effect of the
three lifting surfaces in the
AvantiII
allows some 34%
main wing area reduction, hence a proportional
benefit in weight and drag. Pitch and yaw control
are through a traditional T-tail arrangement and
lateral control through ailerons, thus providing
fully conventional handling characteristics.
All controls are fully manual and aerodynami-
cally balanced for lightness, and the ailerons have
completely sealed gaps. All three axes have electri-
cally - powered trimtabs. The airframe consists of 90%
