For this reason rules were reinforced this year,
and it is required that at least half of the crew and
the leader must have completed a Category 1 Regat-
ta, and at least two crew members have to be certi-
fied in first aid.
Previous to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race, the
“Cruising Yacht Club of Australia”, organized a series
of regattas as preparations, froma total of seven rac-
es, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race is the only one that
scores double point for the general ranking.
The summer of regattas in Australia starts with
the “Rolex Trophy One Design Series” a race for the
“One Design” class, starting on Friday December 12
and ended on January 1st 2009.
It is known that the 628 miles from the regatta
are defined as one of the most complex events in the
world. This great challenge for al sailors starts on the
port of Sydney, sailing to the Tasmanian Sea, and go-
ing down to southeast Australia sailing next to the
Bass Narrows (dividing Australia and Tasmania), so
it reaches the Tasmanian east coast.
In the island of Tasmania the sailors go deep into
the Storm Bay where they set their course for the Der-
went River tofinish in thehistorical port ofHobart City.

tripulación, deben de haber completado una regata de
Categoría 1, además que al menos dos de sus miem-
bros deben de tener certificados en primeros auxilios.
Previamente a la “Rolex Sydney Hobart Race”, el

de siete pruebas, siendo la “Rolex Sydney Hobart Race”
la única que puntúa doble para la clasificación general.
El verano de las regatas en Australia empieza con la
“Rolex Trophy One Design Series”, que son para las clases
“One Design”, las cuales dan inicio el viernes 12 de diciem-
bre y terminan con la premiación el 1 de enero del 2009.
Se sabe que las 628 millas de la regata son definidas
como uno de los eventos más complicados que hay en
el mundo. Este gran desafío para todos los navegantes
tiene su salida en el puerto de Sydney, hacia el Mar de
Tasmania, bajando hacia el sureste de Australia pasando
por un lado del Estrecho de Bass ( que divide Australia con
Tasmania), para así llegar a la costa este de Tasmania.
En la isla de Tasmania los navegantes se adentran a
la Bahía Storm, donde fijan su rumbo al Río Derwent para
finalizar en el histórico puerto de la ciudad de Hobart.
