Por sus hábitos nocturnos y por ser un animal
solitario, es difícil hallar un jaguar. Iincluso, por la
espesura de la selva, es difícil verlo desde lejos.
Por ello, tuvimos que tomar fotos de este anima-
lito en el Zoológico Miguel Álvarez del Toro, de
Tuxtla-Gutiérrez, donde hay ejemplares. Lo mismo
ocurrió con el quetzal, con el agregado de que en ese
zoológico se están ocupando de que esta ave magní-
fica se reproduzca. Este zoológico es un excelente
lugar para conocer la biodiversidad de la región, ya
que sólo cuenta con ejemplares que pueden ser vis-
tos en el Estado de Chiapas.
Entrar en esta región es una aventura: sonidos,
aromas, texturas, formas... el canto del agua a nues-
tro alrededor, como si buscara darnos tranquilidad e
invitarnos a reflexionar. Se requiere de equipo espe-
cial y ser guiados por gente con experiencia y cono-
cimiento.
Es esencial para la vida que todos colaboremos en
el cuidado y conservación de este tesoro de nuestro
mundo. Representa un pulmón para el planeta, es
fuente de agua y electricidad para México, y quizá la
cura para muchos de nuestros males si ponemos inte-
rés en las plantas y animales que ahí habitan. Sin duda,
lomás importante es que es fuente de vida para todos.
La UNESCO la ha reconocido como zona imprescindible
para la salud ambiental del planeta.

sive animal at the Miguel Álvarez del Toro Zoo, in
Tuxtla Gutierrez, where there are two of them. The

ductionof thismagnificent bird. TheMiguel Álvarez
del Toro Zoo is an excellent place to learn about the
biodiversity of the region since it has specimens
that can only be seen in the State of Chiapas.
Visiting this region is an adventure: sounds,
smells, textures, shapes... the chant of the water
that surrounds us, as if it were seeking to provide
us tranquility and invite us to reflect. Special equip-
ment and guides with experience and knowledge
are required to venture into the jungle.
It is essential for life that we all collaborate in
the care and conservation of this treasure. It repre-
sents a lung for the planet, it is a source of water
and electricity for Mexico and maybe the cure for
many of our ills if we take an interest in the plants
and animals that inhabit it. Undoubtedly, themost
important thing is that it is a source of life for all.
UNESCO has recognized it as an area essential for
the environment health of the planet.
