The vital experience of Wolfgang Tillmans’ photography
E
n el Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, de
Washington, DC, se exhibe actualmente, y hasta
agosto del 2007, la exposición
Wolfgang
Tillmans
. La muestra ya se ha presentado en el Museo
de Arte Contemporáneo de Chicago y en el Museo
Hammer de Los Ángeles, y podremos verla enMéxico, en
el 2008, en el Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo. La
exposición reúne unas 300 fotografías del artista ale-
mán nacido en Remscheid en 1968.
En el eclecticismo de la obra fotográfica de
Wolfgang Tillmans advertimos una a una las capas del
sustrato de la experiencia como vital. Podríamos pen-
sar que cada fotografía funciona como autorretrato,
porque deja patente su paso por el mundo y su particu-
lar modo de mirar.

he “Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture
Garden”, in Washington, DC, is currently
exhibiting theWolfgang Tillmans exhibition
through August. The exhibition has already visited
the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art and the
Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. We can expect it
here in Mexico at the Tamayo Contemporary Art
Museum in 2008. The exhibition brings together
approximately 300 photographs of the German
artist born in Remscheid in 1968.
In the eclecticism of Wolfgang Tillmans’ pho-
tographic work, we see one by one the substrate
layers of the experience as vital. We could think
that each photograph functions as a self-portrait
because it traces the photographer’s journeys
