Q
uienes vivimos enMéxico no podemos dejar de sa-
ber y de agradecer permanentemente lo afortuna-
dos que somos por vivir en un país que posee una
biodiversidad maravillosa y grandiosos litorales marinos.
Esta riqueza está presente en el Golfo de México, en el
océano Pacífico, en el Caribe y en el Mar de Cortés. De és-
tos, el Mar de Cortés es el más rico de todos, ya que allí se
desarrolla un variado universo de animales y plantas mi-
croscópicos. Y si bien la existencia de estos seres es efíme-
ra es de gran importancia, ya que su colosal reproducción
forma la base de la pirámide alimenticia para los grandes
animales marinos y ayuda a oxigenar nuestro planeta. Es
decir, estoy refiriéndome al imprescindible plancton.
El puerto de La Paz está prácticamente situado en la
entrada del Mar de Cortés, en el Estado de Baja Califor-
nia Sur. Es una ciudad progresista, limpia y cien por
ciento marina. Sus paisajes son realmente contrastan-
tes, pues conjugan desierto, playas y mar.

exicans are very fortunate. We live in a
country of great biodiversity that has exten-
sive coasts on the Gulf of Mexico, the great
Pacific Ocean, the transparent Caribbean and the
bountiful Sea of Cortez.
Of these, the richest is the amazing Sea of Cortez.
Here there a huge amounts of plankton, limitless
quantities of microscopic animals and plants of
ephemeral, but vital, existence that live and repro-
duce in these waters. Plankton is the foundation of
the food pyramid which feeds large marine species as
well as oxygenates the planet.
The port of La Paz, a progressive, clean, totally
marine city, is located in the state of Baja California Sur
and at the entrance to the Sea of Cortez. The views are
contrasting and blend the desert, beaches and the sea.
Marine explorers will find grand surprises when he or
