W
orking for a living as a diver has givenme
great satisfaction, as well as surprises.
You never stop learning or surprising
yourself, such as the invitation extended to me by
theDirector of the LagunaVerdeNuclear Plant, engi-
neer Mr. Rafael de la Garza to dive at the only
nuclear plant in Mexico. It was an invitation that i
could not turn down, although I had certain reser-
vations due to the rumors about contamination,
which I had inmind.
So, after making the arrangements, we set off,
my good friend Armando Gasse an assistant and I,
to the beautiful port of Veracruz, where Rafael Vega,
a friend from my youth and nor the key person in
the operation of the nuclear plant, awaited us. The
plant is located between the lush coastal landscapes
of the Gulf of Mexico, at kilometer 42.5 of the Cardel-
Nautla Federal Highway, at Punta Limón, in the
Municipality of Alto Lucero. The nuclear plant is 70
kilometers to the north of the legendary city of
Veracruz, installed in an area of 370 hectares framed
by five natural lagoons.
The proximity to the beaches makes the nuclear
plant a complement to the coastal landscape, where

l trabajo como buzo que realizo para vivir me
ha dado grandes satisfacciones, además de
sorpresas. Nunca dejas de aprender ni de sor-
prenderte, como me pasó cuando por una invitación
que me hizo el director de la Planta Nuclear Laguna
Verde, ingeniero Rafael de la Garza, para bucear en la
única planta nuclear que existe en México. Invitación
que no pude resistir, aunque lo hice con cierto temor
debido a los rumores acerca de la contaminación, y
los tenía muy presentes en mi mente.
Así, después de los arreglos necesarios nos fui-
mos, mi buen amigo Armando Gasse y un servidor, al
bello puerto de Veracruz, donde nos esperaba el
ingeniero Rafael Vega, amigo de mi juventud y ahora
persona clave para la operación de la planta nuclear.
Ésta se encuentra ubicada entre frondosos paisajes
costeros del Golfo de México, en el kilómetro 42.5 de
la carretera federal Cardel-Nautla, en Punta Limón,
Municipio de Alto Lucero. La planta nuclear está a 70
kilómetros al norte de la legendaria ciudad de
Veracruz, instalada en un área de 370 hectáreas y
enmarcada bellamente por cinco lagunas naturales.
La cercanía a las playas hacen de la planta nuclear
un complemento del paisaje costero, donde el azul del
