excellent performance in competitions. Most of
the crew started by learning the basics of this
great sport and over time they acquired a spe-
cializations in each of the positions of competi-
tion on board the yacht”.
Training and the first regattas served to gain
experience in the different positions that each
crew member would adopt. The five positions on
board are assigned as follows:
First position,
helmsman:
responsible for
steering the yacht with the helm through the
regatta course, as well as the mainsail.
Second position,
sheet man:
in charge of adjust-
ing the second sail to gainmore speed of the yacht all
times with the different wind andwave conditions.
Third position,
winch man:
adjusts the sheets
so that all the systems work correctly.
Fourth position controls all the mast adjust-
ments and adjusts the variables that have to be
worked as a team with the foredeck.
Fifth position,
spinnaker
: responsible for per-
forming the activities to adjsut hte third sail and
thus reach maximum speed.
Besides these activities, all the crew members
must pay attention to everything that happens
both inside and outside the regatta course by
observing the wind conditions, the currents, the
waves and the climatic changes in order to share

Los entrenamientos y las primeras regatas fun-
cionaron para experimentar las diferentes posicio-
nes que cada uno adoptaría. Así, se asignaron los
cinco lugares dentro del barco:
Primera posición,
timonel:
encargado de dirigir el
barco con el timón por la cancha de regatas, y tam-
bién de llevar la vela mayor.
Segunda posición,
escotero:
se ocupa de ajustar
la segunda vela con el objetivo de lograr la mayor
velocidad del velero en todo momento, con las dife-
rentes condiciones del viento y las olas.
Tercera posición,
marimba:
ajusta las escotas para
que todos los sistemas funcionen a la perfección.
Cuarta posición, controla todos los ajustes del
mástil y ajusta las variables que se tienen para tra-
bajar en equipo con el
foredeck
.
Quinta posición,
spinnaker
: es responsable de lle-
var a cabo las acciones para permitir que la tercera
vela se ajuste y se logre alcanzar la máxima velocidad.
Además de estas acciones, todos los tripulantes
prestan atención a lo que ocurre dentro y fuera de
la cancha de regatas al observar las condiciones
del viento, las corrientes, las olas y los cambios
