A
s has happened for 27 years, last October the
Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournament 2007 was
held in Los Cabos. Bisbee’s Black & Blue is the
most important fishing tournament in the world, in
which fishing boats from all over the world gather
for a chance to win the prize of US$5 million, the
biggest prize for tournament of this nature.
So, the competition began under a blazing sun
and in perfect sea conditions with 166 teams from
all corners of the world taking part, fromAustralia,
Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Tahiti,
Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Ukraine,
Switzerland, Great Biritain and the USA, the latter
with the highest number of fishermen.
The fishing could not have been better. With
the calm sea and the ideal moonlight, hundreds of
specimens were caught, which has not happened
for many years in this competition. In fact, more
than 200 large fish (more than 90%) were caught
and returned to the sea. This without doubt raised
all the crews’ spirits who, from very early through
to sundown battled to catch the largest specimen,
to meet the 300 lb minimum to quantify.
The team to catch the authentic “big fish”, a
blue marlin weighing in at 620 lbs, was the Angel
and the Badman II team, who took away a prize of

omo sucede desde hace 27 años, el pasado mes de
octubre se llevó a cabo en Los Cabos el Bisbee’s Black
& Blue Tournament 2007, la competencia de pesca
más importante del mundo, donde se dieron cita barcos de
todas partes en pos de los 5 millones de dólares, la bolsa
más grande para un torneo de estas características.
Así, con un sol pleno y un mar en las mejores condi-
ciones, se llevó a esta edición en la que 166 equipos com-
pitieron en un evento de pesca deportiva, con pescadores
de todos los puntos cardinales del orbe como Australia,
Islas Bermudas, Brasil, Canadá, Chile, Costa Rica, Tahití,
Japón, México, Nueva Zelanda, Rusia, Ucrania, Suiza,
Reino Unido y Estados Unidos, éste último con el mayor
número de pescadores.
La pesca no pudo ser mejor. Con un mar calmo y una
fase lunar ideal, se capturaron cientos de ejemplares
como hacía muchos años no ocurría en este torneo. De
hecho, se atraparon y liberaron a más de 200 peces de
gran tamaño (más del 90%). Esto sin duda alentó los áni-
mos de los barcos y sus tripulantes quienes, desde tem-
prana hora y hasta la caída del sol, lucharon en buena lid
por atrapar al mejor ejemplar, que cubriera las 300 libras
mínimas para calificar.
Y quien logró sacar al auténtico ‘peso pesado’, un
marlin azul de 620 libras, fue el equipo
