• Si se visita Guatemala entre diciembre y febrero hay
que esperar amaneceres y anocheceres fríos, aun-
que no de manera abrumadora. Por su parte, marzo
y abril son los meses más calurosos y secos. La lluvia
aparece en mayo y junio, por lo que se recomienda
usar repelente para mosquitos durante esta época.
De julio a noviembre se pasa de un ambiente caluro-
so al regreso del frío en invierno.
• En ese país el transporte público es barato; aunque,
en general, los autobuses comunes se saturan. No
obstante, también se encuentran disponibles ser-
vicios de autobuses pullman que hacen recorridos a
través de la capital, Río Dulce y Morales hasta Puerto
Barrios, además de los exprés, que son más amiga-
bles y tranquilos.
• Los niños son una parte importante de la cultura
guatemalteca y se les cuida y respeta de manera
preponderante. Si se desea tomar una fotografía de
algún paisaje que incluya a un infante, como corte-
sía, se debe solicitar permiso a sus padres.
• Uno de los atractivos más recomendables es visitar
el volcán Pacaya por la noche. La corriente de lava es
un espectáculo majestuoso e inigualable. A pesar de
ser un volcán activo, la seguridad durante el recorri-
do está totalmente garantizada. Lo único que debe
preocupar al visitante es no perderse esta magnífica
escena que brinda la naturaleza.
• Si las fechas coinciden con su visita, el Festival de
San Francisco de Asís es una de las más maravillosas
festividades de Guatemala, asistir es casi una obli-
gación. El espectáculo de fuegos artificiales y el am-
biente de los habitantes de ese lugar hacen de éste
un evento inolvidable.

• The country offers affordable public transpor-

crowded. Nevertheless, one can also find Pullman
bus services that make follow a fixed route around
the capital city, Rio Dulce and Morales towards
Puerto Barrios, as well as some express services
that are quieter and friendlier.
• Children take an important role in Guatemalan
culture, and are highly cared for and respected. If
one wishes to take a photograph that includes a
child in the picture, it is advisable, out of courtesy,
to first ask permission froman adult first.
• It is recommended that travellers visit the Pacaya
volcano at night. The lava flowmakes for a majes-
tic and unique spectacle. Despite being an active
volcano, there is no risk of danger inside these
areas. The only thing that should concern travel-
lers is to miss this magnificent scene provided by
nature.
• The Saint Francis of Assisi Festival is one of the
most spectacular of Guatemalan celebrations, and
if finding yourself in the country during the time
the festival is held makes it an obligatory place to
visit. The fireworks show and the ambience cre-
ated by localsmake it an unforgettable event.
