Caminamos directamente al Palacio Real para visi-
tarlo temprano, descubriendo ese suntuoso palacio
que reina donde se alzaba el alcázar de los musul-
manes. Después de admirar las fachadas con sus
ventanales, balcones y pilastras, descubrimos el
patio central y finalmente algunos de los 30 salo-
nes principales: el Salón del Trono con su bóveda
pintada por Tiepolo en 1766, su mobiliario de talla
dorada de la época de Carlos III, los leones de bronce
que flanquean el dosel del trono; la Cámara del Rey;
la Sala de Porcelana creada por la fábrica del Buen
Retiro; el Salón de los Espejos con sus inmensos
espejos; el Comedor de Gala y las Galerías que pre-
sentan las pinturas de grandes pintores como Juan
de Flandes, Caravaggio, Velásquez y Goya. Termina-
mos nuestra visita con el Campo Moro o jardines del
Palacio y la Real Armería que conserva una impre-
sionante colección de armas y armaduras.
Pasamos por las calles donde se encuentran mu-
chos buenos restaurantes, visitamos la Parroquia de
Santiago y San Juan (Plaza de Santiago), las dos parro-
quias más antiguas que hubo en Madrid en un edificio
que data de 1814.
Tomamos un taxi para llegar al museo Sorolla, ese
gran pintor valenciano que alcanzó una gran populari-
dad con sus pinturas costumbritas y retratos. El mu-
seo se alberga en su casa y visitamos sus estudios y
habitaciones para admirar algunas de sus más famo-
sas obras como el retrato de su esposa e hijos, Moro
con Naranjas, Alcázar de Sevilla, Catedral de Burgos,
La Siesta y la Violetera.
Con la cabeza llena de imágenes que nos habían
hecho vibrar gracias a la luz mágica de sus pinturas,
nos fuimos a comer en uno de los restaurantes más

We walked directly to the Royal Palace to visit
early, discovering the sumptuous palace where
Queen stood the palace of the Muslims. After ad-
miring the facades with windows, balconies and
pillars, we find the central courtyard and finally
some of the 30 main rooms: the Throne Roomwith
its vaulted ceiling painted by Tiepolo in 1766, its
gilded carved furniture from the time of Carlos
III , the bronze lions that flank the canopy of the
throne, the King’s Chamber, the Porcelain Room
created by the factory Buen Retiro, the Hall of Mir-
rors with its huge mirrors, the Hall of Gala and gal-
leries that exhibit the paintings of great painters
such as Juan de Flanders, Caravaggio, Velasquez
and Goya. We ended our visit to the Campo Moro
and gardens of the Palace and the Royal Armory
which retains an impressive collection of weap-
ons and armory.
We walked the streets where many good res-
taurants can be found, we visited the parish of
Santiago and San Juan (Plaza de Santiago), the
two oldest parishes in Madrid in a building dat-
ing from 1814.
We took a taxi to the Museo Sorolla, the great
painter from Valencia, who achieved great popular-
ity with his paintings and portraits costumbritas.
The museum is housed in his home and visit their
studios and rooms to admire some of his most fa-
mous works as the portrait of his wife and children,
Moro with oranges, Seville’s Alcazar, Cathedral of
Burgos, La Siesta and Violetera.
After our visit, we went to eat at one of the most
famous restaurants inMadrid, Ramón Freixa Madrid,
to taste the cuisine of the avant-garde Catalan chef.
