gante y refinado, con su spa, restaurante con excelente
comida y su maravilloso campo de golf.
Al amanecer, la navegación nos llevó hacia el este, si-
guiendo la costa desde lejos por el poco fondo que hay
cerca de la tierra. Las islas de Tailandia se apreciaban en el
horizonte, pasamos la playa de arena negra, Pantai Pasir
Hitam, ymuy pronto llegamos a Tanjung Rhu, una esplen-
dorosa playa protegida por tres islas rocosas de extraña
forma, y situada a la salida de una ciénaga. Aquí el agua es
poco profunda y con marea baja se puede ir caminando a
las islas. Por lo mismo tuvimos que anclar el velero lejos
de la costa y visitar los puntos de interés del norte.
Paseamos por el manglar en kayak, y luego fuimos
en taxi a conocer los invernaderos de orquídeas, los
manantiales de agua caliente de Air Hangat, las casca-
das de Durian Perangin, que son impresionantes en
tiempos de Monzón. También subimos al Gunung Raya,
la montaña más alta de la isla (881 m), durante su as-
censión por carretera las vistas son magníficas y su ci-
ma es uno de los mejores lugares para ver un águila o
un hornbill.

It is a paradise built in the jungle, on a beautiful beach
of fine white sand that is twice as big when the tide is
low. It is an elegant and refinedworld, with a Spa, out-
standing restaurant and extraordinary golf course.
At sunrise, we sailed east, following the coast at a
great distance because the water is very shallow near
land. We could see the islands of Thailand in the hori-
zon, we passed the black sand beach of Pantai Pasir
Hitam, and we soon reached Tanjung Rhu, a splendid
strip of sand protected by three rocky, strangely
shaped islands, and situated at the mouth of a
swamp.
We sailed through the mangrove swamp in a
kayak, and later took a taxi to see the orchid nursery,
the Air Hangat hot springs, the Durian Perangin
waterfalls, which are especially impressive during the
monsoon season. We also went up Gunung Raya,
the highest mountain on the island (881meters /2,890
feet). The views aremagnificent going up the highway
and this mountaintop is one of the best places to see
an eagle or a hornbill.
