En medio de una de las más impactantes
situaciones que el mundo vivió, después
de los avionazos que derribaron las Torres
Gemelas, la decisión ya estaba tomada, en
esta ocasión me aventuraría a ir a cono-
cer otras aguas del mundo, las del mar Rojo. El por-
qué queda demás decirlo, ya que ciertamente es uno
de los lugares más bellos y extremos del mundo, sin
mencionar la historia que estos lugares guardan.
El no estar acostumbrado a otro tipo de vida, re-
ligión y costumbres tan extremas como lo puede ser
la musulmana, en primera vista puede ser un shock.
Ver a las mujeres siempre cubiertas bajo sus velos es
como adentrarse en una película de mundos muy di-
ferentes a la vida occidental. Y así, al paso del tiempo,
uno se empieza a compenetrar y entender más otro
tipo de vida y cultura.
Amí siempreme ha gustado el realizar viajes largos
en donde la experiencia vivencial sea mucho más rica
que una simple visita de turista de solo un par de se-
manas, así que ahora decidí quedarme en la región por
espacio de un año, en la zona de Sharm el Sheik, uno
de los puntos mas turísticos de Egipto en la punta sur
de la península del Sinaí. Sumergido entre dos enormes
masas de tierra continentales en donde convergen, por
un lado, las placas tectónicas de la región arábica y, por
el otro, la africana, hacen que estas aguas se agran-
den año con año por el movimiento de dichas placas,
y hacen que el mar Rojo quede conformado como uno
de los mas grandes zoológicos naturales del mundo. La
historia que encierra este lugar, sin mencionar la reli-
giosa como puede ser el éxodo de Moisés, tuvo en años
más recientes mucho movimiento navío de la Segunda
Guerra Mundial, que hoy podemos apreciar bajo el agua
como el Thiselgorm.
In the midst of one of the most shocking sit-
uations that the world lived, after the plane
crash that destroyed the Twin Towers, the
decision was made, this time I would ven-
ture to go meet other waters of the world,
the Red Sea. The reason needed no words, it cer-
tainly is one of the most beautiful sights and it is
also, the end of the world, not to mention the his-
tory that this place beholds.
Not being accustomed to another kind of life,
religion and customs as extreme as the Muslim
may be, at first glance can be quiet impressive.
Seeing women always covered under their veils
is like stepping into a movie very different world
from Western life. And so, over time, one begins
to empathize and understand more other way of
life and cultures.
I always liked the longer trips where life ex-
perience is much richer than a simple tourist
visit for a couple of weeks, so now I decided to
stay in the region for about a year, the Sharm el
Sheikh area, one of the most touristic spots of
Egypt in the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula,
submerged between two large continental land
masses that converge. On one hand, the tectonic
plates in the Arabic region and, on the other, Af-
rica, which makes these waters, get bigger every
year due to the movement of the tectonic plates.
These plates have formed the Red Sea; it remains
one of the greatest natural zoos of the world. The
story behind this place, not to mention the reli-
gious importance, such as the exodus of Moses,
had in recent years a lot of movement from ves-
sels of World War II, now we can see the under-
water shipwreck of Thiselgorm.
