Ari gozaba estando en el mar, por lo que pasaba días

enteros en el Christina, inclusive Athina afirmaba que

Onassis amaba más a su barco que a ella misma. Y eso

también lo sabían los miembros de la tripulación, pues

cualquier desperfecto o la más pequeña mancha gene-

raba un escandaloso despido dejando al responsable del

disgusto en el siguiente puerto que fueran a atracar.

Con el paso del tiempo el barco envejeció y des-

pués de la muerte de Onassis en 1975, fue heredado

a su hija Christina, quien tres años después lo cedió al

gobierno griego para ser usado como yate presiden-

cial, función que cumplió hasta el 2001 cuando pasó

a manos privadas; fue remodelado y recobró su nom-

bre, al cual se le añadió la O para que no perdiera el

apellido de su dueño original.

En el 2013 el mega yate se subastó por 32 millones

de dólares y actualmente se puede disfrutar de esta

histórica embarcación por una renta.

Ari enjoyed being out at sea, and that is why

he spent days at a time on board of the Christina.

Athina even used to say that Onassis loved his

boat more than her. The crew members knew that

too, the tiniest spot provoked an outrageous sack-

ing, dumping the guilty party of the upset on the

next port at which they docked.

Time went by, the boat got older, and after

Onassis’s demise, in 1975, she was inherited by his

daughter Christina, who three years later trans-

ferred her to the Greek government to be used as a

presidential yacht, role she performed until 2001

when she passed to private hands; she was remod-

eled and recovered her name, adding her the “O” so as

not to have her lose her original owner’s last name.

In 2013, the mega yacht was auctioned for 32

million dollars and currently one may enjoy this

historic ship for a lease.
