S
e habla y escribe mucho sobre las cepas de
uva. Existen poco más de 150 variedades
conocidas, identificadas y clasificadas ple-
namente por los especialistas, y entre las más
mencionadas siempre encontramos Malbec,
Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux,
Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc, entre muchas otras. No
obstante, poco hemos escuchado de una elegante
variedad de uva originaria de Francia, caracteriza-
da por intensidad y tipicidad aromáticas muy par-
ticulares. Nos referimos a la Petit Manseng.
Petit Manseng y Gros Manseng son las dos
cepas blancas básicas del licor Jurançon. El Gros
Manseng produce vinos blancos secos frescos y
delicadamente perfumados, mientras que el
varietal Petit Manseng se presta muy bien a la
sobremaduración y a la producción de licorosos,
con aromas típicos de frutos. Sus descriptores
recuerdan desde flores, hasta pomelo, durazno,
damasco, pasando por frutas exóticas hasta con-
fitura y miel.
Jurançon, vino de reyes
En las terrazas del Castillo de Pau en la cadena de
los Pirineos, a lo largo de unos cuarenta kilóme-
tros, las pequeñas parcelas se acurrucan en las

among many others. However, we have heard
little of an elegant variety of grape from France
that stands out for its very particular aromatic
intensity and typicity — that is, the Petit
Manseng. Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng are
the two basic white stocks of the Jurançon
liqueur. The Gros Manseng produces delicately
perfumed fresh dry white wines, while the Petit
Manseng carietal lends itself very well to over-
maturing and the production of strong wines,
with typical fruit aromas. Those who describe
them make reference to flowers through to
grapefruit, peaches, apricots, right through to
exotic fruit, jam and honey.
