ara hablar de Sevilla debemos comenzar por
entender su historia y su herencia multi-
étnica. Desde la edad antigua tuvo mucho
movimiento y presencia multicultural con los carta-
ginenses, romanos e itálicos, además demusulmanes
y vikingos, y esto sólo en los primeros siglos d.C.
En 1248 se incorporó a la cristiana Corona de Cas-
tilla y León, al ser conquistada bajo el reinado de Fer-
nando III, quien fue el primero en ser enterrado en la
Catedral de Sevilla y a partir de entonces fue poblada
por la aristocracia castellana. Como capital del Reino
de Sevilla, fue una de las ciudades con voto en Cortes
y alojó la Corte itinerante en numerosas ocasiones.
Durante la Baja Edad Media, la ciudad, su puerto y
su activa colonia de mercaderes genoveses se situa-
ron en una posición periférica e importante en el co-
mercio internacional europeo. En ese tiempo, sufrió
dramáticas convulsiones económicas, demográficas
y sociales como la peste negra de 1348 o la revuelta
antijudía de 1391.

In 1248 it was incorporated to the Christian
Crown of Castilla y Leon, after being conquered
under the reign of Fernando III, who was the first
one to be buried in the Cathedral of Seville and
since then it was populated by the Castilian Aris-
tocracy. As the capital of the Kingdom of Seville, it
was one of the cities with vote on Cortes and hosted
the itinerant Court in several occasions.
During the early middle age, the city, its port
and its active colony of Genovese merchants were
located in a surrounding but important position
in the international European commerce. In those
times it suffered dramatic economic, demographic
and social convulsions like the black pest in 1348 or
the anti-Jewish revolution in 1391.
