The first day was over and we decided to head
over and stay on the Alfonzo XIII hotel, that besides
having a privileged location (since it was built on
1928 it was designed to be the most luxurious Hotel
in Europe), still keeps most of its class with its Ara-
bic influenced architecture, making a perfect match
with the city.
The next morning we head to the center of the
city on our way to the famous Sierpes Street, begi-
nning at the Campana Plaza and ending all the way
at the San Francisco Plaza, finding the City Hall at
the same time.
The pedestrian street is filled with all kinds
of commerce, renamed candy stores, coffee shops
and taverns, for this reason there will always be
Sevillians and tourists walking through it, either
shopping or just spending time. Also a series of hu-
man statues, mimes, musicians and painters can
be found, and even some improved merchants with
mantles in on the ground.
With the arrival of the Spring time until the end
of Summer, awnings are placed at the same height of
rooftops,making this street and some other neighbor
streets completely covered, giving a sensation of re-
lief while keeping the visitors away from the sun.
Caminamos un poco para apreciar los únicos restos de
la Muralla, que alguna vez cubriría toda la ciudad para
su protección y que data del 65 a.C.
El día terminó y decidimos descansar en el hotel Al-
fonso XIII, que además de tener una privilegiada ubica-
ción (desde su construcción en 1928 fue diseñado para
ser el hotel más lujoso de Europa), aúnmantiene mucha
de esta clase, con su arquitectura de influencia árabe, la
cual hace juego perfectamente con la ciudad.
Al siguiente día por la mañana enfilamos rumbo al
centro para llegar a la famosa calle Sierpes, la cual co-
mienza en la plaza de la Campana y termina en la plaza de
San Francisco, donde a su vez se halla el Ayuntamiento.
La calle peatonal está llena de comercios, reco-
nocidas confiterías, cafeterías y tabernas por lo que
siempre hay sevillanos y extranjeros transitándola,
de compras o aprovechando su tiempo de ocio. Tam-
bién pueden encontrarse estatuas humanas, mimos,
músicos, pintores, e incluso, mantas de improvisados
vendedores ambulantes.
Con la llegada de la primavera hasta la finalización
del verano, se colocan toldos a la altura de las azoteas
quedando ésta y otras calles próximas completamente
“entoldadas”, lo que produce una sensación de alivio, al
tiempo que resguarda del calor a los visitantes.
