Teatro y Plaza de Toros
Navegando un poco por las orillas del río Grande nos
encontramos con la Torre del Oro, aunque espectacu-
larmente disminuida, es parte de los monumentos más
especiales de Sevilla, debido a su brillo dorado que se
refleja sobre el río. Durante las obras de restauración de
2005, se demostró que este brillo, que hasta entonces
se atribuía a un revestimiento de azulejos, era debido a
una mezcla de mortero, cal y paja prensada.
En este mismo lugar, pudimos disfrutar del Teatro
de la Maestranza y la Plaza de Toros de la Real Maes-
tranza que al verlos, podemos entender un poco esta
mezcla de lo antiguo con lo moderno, que hoy en día
prevalece en casi toda Europa.
Este teatro, ubicado en la fachada del Cuartel de
la Real Maestranza de Artillería, está considerado uno
de los mejores teatros vanguardistas de España, po-
seyendo el escenario de mayores dimensiones del
país (construcción que data de 1992), aprovechando
el evento cultural que se celebraría ese mismo año, la
Exposición Universal.
La Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caba-
llería de Sevilla también nos ofrece algo de esta bipo-
laridad, ya que es una de las plazas de toros más anti-

The Theater and Bullfighting Plazas
Sailing across the Grande Riverwefind the Golden
Tower, even though it’s spectacularly diminished, it’s
part of themost special monuments in Seville, due to
it’s golden glare on the river. During the restoration
project in 2005, it was proven that this glare, that un-
til thenwas believed to be from the tiles, was given to
a combination of mortar, lime and pressed hay.
In this same place, we could enjoy the Maestran-
za Theater and the Maestranza’s Bullfigthing Plaza,
that while looking at them, we were able to under-
stand the mixture between modern and antique,
that until this day prevails in almost all of Europe.
This theater, located in the façade of the Real
Maestranza de Artilleria’s barracks, is considered to
be one of the best avant guard theaters in Spainwith
the biggest stage in the country (construction dated
on 1992), taking advantage of the cultural event of
that same year, The Universal Expo.
The bullfighting Plaza of the Real Maestranza
de Caballeria in Seville, also offers a little of this
bipolarity, since it’s one of the oldest plazas in the
continent but nowadays hosts lots of bull runs -es-
pecially on the fairs in April- aside from being one
