Archivo General de Indias
Siguiendo con los grandes edificios de esta ciudad,
a continuación nos detenemos en el Archivo General
de Indias, el cual está ubicado en la antigua Casa Lonja
de Mercaderes, en la Avenida de la Constitución.
En el archivo se guardan documentos correspon-
dientes al Nuevo Mundo, desde el momento del des-
cubrimiento hasta el siglo pasado, entre los cuales se
encuentran autógrafos de los principales protagonis-
tas de la gestión colonizadora; la solicitud de un pues-
to en Indias de Miguel de Cervantes; el original de la
Bula de demarcación de Alejandro VI; el diario de Colón
y planos de las principales ciudades americanas.
Este gran archivo constituye fundamentalmente un
centro de investigación sobre la historia de América.
Continuamos hacia el este sobre la avenida Cons-
titución, para llegar al Real Alcázar de Sevilla, que hoy
en día alberga al ayuntamiento de la ciudad, un edificio
que data del siglo X y que es en la actualidad el Palacio
Real más antiguo de Europa y en activo.
En 1988, el Ayuntamiento y Patrimonio Nacional
firmaron un acuerdo donde el primero, como único
dueño, autoriza a los Reyes de España y a sus familia-
res a la utilización del Alcázar como residencia.
Paseamos por sus bellos jardines, donde se reúnen
caracteres árabes, renacentistas y modernos, los cua-
les están dispuestos en terrazas de vegetación ver-
deante, multitud de naranjos y palmeras con fuentes
y pabellones, donde se respira frescor y quietud, lugar
ideal para el descanso en la ciudad.

Following the great buildings of this city,
our next stop is the General Archive of Indias,
located at the Casa Lonja de Mercaderes on the
Constitucion Ave.
In this archive many documents corresponding
to the New World are stored, since the discovery of
America until the last century. Among this docu-
ments are autographs from the main characters
of the Spanish colonization; the request of a post in
Indias fromMiguel de Cervantes; the Original Bula of
Alexander VI; the diary of Colon, and blueprints for
the main American Cities
This great Archive is mainly a research center
about America’s History.
We keep going through the Costitucion Ave. to
reach the Real Alcazar of Seville; this is today’s City
Hall, a building dated on the 10th Century and is
today the oldest active Royal Palace in Europe.
In 1988, the City Hall and the National Pa-
trimony signed an agreement where the first,
as the only owner, authorizes the Kings of Spain
and their relatives with the use of the Alcazar as
their residence.
We took a walk through its beautiful gardens,
where Arabic, renaissance and modern attributes
are gathered in terraces of green vegetation, a crowd
of orange trees and palm trees with fountains and
pavilions, where fresh air is breathed, an ideal spot
to rest in the city.
