Vineyard
Today, the vineyard measures about 1 km

).
It is one of the largest in the Médoc region and pro-
duces about 35,000 bottles a year.
Its vines are about 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25 %
Merlot, 3 % Cabernet Franc and 2 % Petit Verdot. The
wines are about 80 to 95 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 to
20 % Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Exceptions are done once in a while, for example
Le Grande Cru of 1961 was produced in its entirety
with Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Wines
Lafite’s most exceptional vintages are those of 1795,
1798, 1801, 1802. 1814, 1815, 1834, 1841, 1847, 1848,
1858, 1864. 1869, 1870, 1876, 1899, 1900, 1906, 1926,
1929, 1947, 1949, 1955, 1975, 1976, 1985, 1986, 1989,
1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999.

History
From the 12th century to the 15th, the state was in
charge of the vineyards until the Lestonnac family
bought the land and gave the wine its exclusive
importance. In 1570, Pierre de Lestonnac dedicated
himself to doing away with the cereals that invaded
his fields and planted them instead with the best
grapes of the region. By 1700, he had 265 hectares
(655 acres) planted with vines.
During the 18th century, the wine suffered a ter-
rible change and became pale liquid that was com-
pletely colorless and watery. With the idea of
administering sales, the family hired Monsieur
Berlon, who, by fertilizing the ground, revolutional-
ized cultivation techniques. During this period this
procedure was prohibited so he was forced to do this

Del siglo XII al XV el Estado se ocupó de las viñas cuan-
do la familia de Lestonnac compra Ios terrenos se le
brindó una importancia exclusiva al vino. En 1570 Pierre
de Lestonnac se consagró a despejar los cereales que in-
vadían sus campos para suplantarlos con las mejores
uvas de la región. Para 1700, ya poseían 265 hectáreas
