Símbolo y sostén en la vida de
los azerbaiyanos
Es el símbolo de la región de Aghdam en Karabaj,
en la época que se marca como fecha del origen
de la raza, fue para sus pobladores, el medio de
transporte más veloz y eficaz, ya que un caballo
entrenado logra alcanzar hasta 70 km por hora.
La experiencia de galopar sobre ellos debió ser lo
más cercano a volar, literalmente. Ha sido fuente
de sustento, aliado en las labores del campo, mon-
tura en las batallas y para el juego ecuestre tradi-
cional azerbaiyano: el Chovkan, inscrito en el año
2013 ) en la Lista del Patrimonio Cultural
Inmaterial que requiere medidas urgentes de sal-
vaguarda. También era, y sigue siendo compañero
en las danzas acrobáticas tan espectaculares de
los jinetes azerbaiyanos.
