Navegando por las islas
Las Bahamas se distingue como un destino suma-
mente solicitado a escala mundial, por lo que existen
tres aeropuertos internacionales, a los cuales llegan
vuelos desde casi todos los estados de la Unión Ame-
ricana, y en particular de Panamá; adicionalmente, la
mayoría de las islas cuentan con aeropuertos loca-
les, a los cuales es posible llegar cómodamente en jet
privado, ya que muchos de ellos son puertos oficiales
de entrada. No obstante la facilidad para llegar por
aire, hay que resaltar la vocación náutica que man-
tiene esta región desde el siglo XVI, por lo que es co-
mún el arribo de embarcaciones de todo tipo de ca-
lado; por lo mismo, el destino cuenta con numerosas
marinas y clubes náuticos muy bien equipados. Así
quienes llegan atraídos por el ánimo de navegar por
las islas y cayos de este remanso de paz caribeño, y
no cuentan con un yate, catamrán o barco de vela
propio, existen numerosos proveedores con servicio
de renta o charter con o sin tripulación.
Andros es una isla a la cual es posible llegar en
un vuelo

en aeronaves de siete y nueve pa-
sajeros desde el Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami;
tras una hora de vuelo se aterriza en el Lauderdale
Executive Airport, ubicado en Andros Town. Una vez
en Andros, se llega en 20 minutos al muelle, desde
donde zarpan ferries privados hacia Kamalame Cay,
un refugio privado de 39 hectáreas separado de la
isla de Andros por una pequeña entrada de mar tur-
quesa. Se trata de un oasis de hospitalidad, exube-
rante vegetación y playas de arena blanca en donde
se aprecian apacibles cabañas envueltas de bugan-
vilias, singulares bungalós y casas de playa de estilo
balinés. En este lugar es común la práctica del buceo,
pesca, ecoturismo, velerismo y pesca.
Hablar de The Cove, Eleuthera, es una referencia
obligada, pues hay quienes dicen que es tradicional
por excelencia, pero más que eso, se trata de una
leyenda resignificada en estilo, lujo y distinción; se
trata de un destino único, ubicado en la playa más
famosa del mundo por sus características arenas
rosadas –las más hermosa del Caribe–; aquí, Sidney
D. Torres IV, diseñó y supervisó la transformación
de The Cove para convertirla en un deslumbrante
refugio isleño. Ubicado sobre 16 hectáreas tropica-
les de aguas turquesas, ésta, que ha sido clasificada
como la mejor isla privada del mundo, por su estilo

Navigating around the isles
The Bahamas is distinguished as an extremely de-
manded destination worldwide; that is why it has
3 international airports; flights from almost all
the states of the North American Union and, spe-
cially, Panama, arrive in them; in addition, most of
the isles have local airports, it is possible to arrive
at them easily on a private jet; many of them be-
ing official entrance airports to The Bahamas. In
spite of the ease to arrive by air, it is important to
remark the nautical vocation that this region has
had ever since the XVI century; thus being usual
the arrival of all kinds of vessels of every length
overall; and this is why, this destination has nu-
merous well-rigged marinas and nautical clubs.
So, those who arrive lured by the desire to navigate
around the isles and cays in this Caribbean haven
of peace, and have no yacht, catamaran or sailboat
of their own, there exist many lease or charter sup-
pliers with or without crewmen included.
Andros is an island to which one may arrive
on a chartered flight in 7 or 9 passenger aircraft
from the Miami International Airport; after an
hour flight one lands on the Lauderdale Executive
Airport, located in Andros Town. Once in Andros,
a 20 minute trip to the pier where private ferries
sail will take one to Kamalame Cay, a 39 hectare
private shelter, separated from the Andros Is-
land by a little turquoise sea entryway. This is a
hospitality oasis with exuberant vegetation and
white sand beaches; where there are quiet cabins
surrounded by bougainvillea, peculiar bungalows
