hat kind of car is the BMW M5? An appar-
ently simple question; however, the
answer begs another question: Is it a sports
saloon or a Formula 1 car?
No matter how much the answer sounds ambigu-
ous, it is both. It is the sports saloon with the highest
level of features that BMW has EVER produced. The
hard facts lead us to such radical affirmation: 500
horse power —100 h.p. per liter —, a torque of 383
lb/ft at 6,100 r.p.m., which means the power of an
engine 15% bigger; the turnover of its V-10 liter nor-
mal aspirated engine, which develops its maximum
power output at 7,750 r.p.m and the seven-speed
Sequential Manual Gearbox transmission with gear
shift levers on the steering wheel, which give as a
result of 4.7 seconds for the traditional 0-100 km/h.
If we analyze all these elements and then we add
the best power to weight ratio of a sports saloon of
these proportions — even through the construction
of the roof from synthetic material reinforced with
carbon fiber (CFK), the aluminum internal chassis,
hood and doors—, the option of this different adjust-
ments for the suspension, which vary from comfort,
normal and sport; seven-speed auto-manual trans-
mission adjustment to its most aggressive position,
added to the power adjustment of 400 to 500 h.p. at
the touch of a button in order to achieve the best lap
times and voila, we have an authentic Formula 1 car.
Added to all this, the M5 spoils its driver with the
options of adjusting the driver’s SEAT electronically
to recline it in infinite positions, give it more or less
width to the backrest, adjust the height and length,
regulate the support surface for the muscles and of
course, it even memorizes the positions.
It is simply a car that is beyond compare!

ucha gente se pregunta, ¿qué tipo de auto es el BMW
M5? Esta pregunta es aparentemente sencilla, sin
embargo su respuesta conduce a una pregunta adi-
cional: ¿es un sedan deportivo o un Fórmula 1? Y por más que
esta respuesta suene ambigua, el M5 abarca a ambos tipos.
Es el sedán deportivo de más altas prestaciones que nun-
ca antes había fabricado la BMW. Los números fríos aprueban
esta radical afirmación: 500 HP —100 por litro de cilindrada,
un torque de 383 libras/pie a 6,100 revoluciones por minuto, lo
que significa la fuerza de un motor 15 por ciento más grande;
lo revolucionado de su motor V-10 de cinco litros normalmen-
te aspirado, que desarrolla su potencia máxima a 7,750 revo-
luciones por minuto, y una transmisión auto-manual
secuencial de siete velocidades con paletas de selección de
marchas al volante, que dan como resultado el tradicional 0-
100 kilómetros por hora en sólo 4.7 segundos.
Si analizamos todos estos elementos, y adicionalmente
agregamos la mejor relación peso/potencia de un sedán de-
portivo de estas proporciones —a través, incluso, de la cons-
trucción del techo conmaterial sintético reforzado con fibra de
carbono (CFK), armazón anterior, cofre y puertas de alumi-
nio—, la opción de tres diferentes ajustes para la suspensión,
que van de confortable a deportiva, pasando por normal; ajus-
te de la transmisión auto-manual de siete marchas a su posi-
ción de máxima agresividad, aunada al ajuste de la potencia de
400 a 500 HP, con el sólo toque de un botón para poder reali-
zar los mejores tiempos en un circuito y ... ¡voilá!, tenemos un
auténtico Fórmula 1.
Además de todo esto, el M5 consiente a su conductor, ya
que tiene la posibilidad de ajustar el asiento del piloto en una
infinidad de posiciones, inclinarlo, darlemayor omenor anchu-
ra al respaldo, ajustarlo en altura y longitud, regular la superfi-
cie de apoyo para los muslos y, por supuesto, incluye la
función de memoria para dichas posiciones.
¡Es simplemente un auto fuera de serie!
