Yas Island.-
Yas Island is the emirate’s sports and
leisure centre. It is only about 30 minutes drive off
Abu Dhabi, andwill be home to a Ferrari Theme Park.
Bu Tinah Island.-
Located approximately 130km
west of Abu Dhabi, Bu Tinah is part of the Marawah
Marine Biosphere Reserve, which was the first marine
biosphere reserve in the region to be recognized by
UNESCO. It is an island which boasts rich marine and
terrestrial ecosystems worthy of global recognition.
The coral reefs of Bu Tinah continue to thrive de-
spite a continual rise in temperature and salinity. Their
survival has given researchers insight into coral reef
survival elsewhere in the world in the face of global
warming. Moreover, the sheltered side of the island
regularly undergoes tidal inundation which allows for
healthymangrove to growup to 5meters inheight.
Dugongs, considered threatened under the IUCN
redlist, have been observed among its seagrassmead-
ows. An estimated 650 individual dugongs have been
spottedinthesummer,while835individualshavebeen
spotted in the winter. Little human activity in the area
has created for anatural sanctuary for the dugongs.
Several migratory birds use the island as a stop-
over to rest and forage during their migration route
from central Asia to Africa. 4-5 active osprey nests
have been regularly recorded on the island during
successive breeding seasons.
Saadiyat Island.-
Saadiyat Island to the east of the Cor-
niche, is being transformed into a luxury leisure and
cultural destination. A massive, multi-billion dollar de-
velopment project that includes world-class entertain-
ment centres,museums, resorts, upscale residences and
Isla Yas.-
Dentro de las islas Yas se encuentran los
centros deportivos y de descanso en Abu Dhabi. Se locali-
za a treintaminutos de la ciudad, y será uno de los hogares
del parque de diversiones Ferrari.
Isla Bu Tinah.-
Localizada aproximadamente a 130 kiló-
metros al oeste de Abu Dhabi, Bu Tinah es parte de la Re-
serva Biosfera de Marawah, la cual fue la primera reserva
biosfera en ser reconocida por la UNESCO. Esta es un isla
que presume una rica variedad de ecosistemas marinos y
terrestres dignos de ser reconocidosmundialmente.
Los arrecifes de coral de Bu Tinah continúan cre-
ciendo aún cuando las temperaturas y la salinidad del
agua incrementan. Su supervivencia le ha otorgado a
expertos la oportunidad de ver cómo reaccionan estos
arrecifes al enfrentarse con el Calentamiento Global.
Asímismo, el lado recluido de isla es regularmente
inundado por las mareas, lo cual permite el crecimien-
to de manglares de hasta 5 metros de altura.
Los dugong, considerados una especie en riesgo de
extinción por la IUCN, han sido observados cerca de la
costa. Se estima que 650 dugong han sido vistos duran-
te el verano, mientras que 835 es el número que se dice
se ha visto en el invierno. La poca actividad humana en la
zona le ha proporcionado un refugio a esta especie.
Varias aves migratorias hacen uso de la isla como un
lugar de descanso y alojo durante sus rutas migratorias
desde el centro de Asia hasta Africa. Cuatro o cinco
nidos de águilas marinas han sido observados en la isla
durante las temporadas de cría.
Isla Saadiyat-
La isla Saadiyat, al este de Corniche, está
siendo transformada en un destino cultural y de lujo. Un
enorme, y sumamente costoso desarrollo urbano que
