La expedición
Buceamos por tres días en diferentes naufragios: en
el “Titan”, el “USS Indra” y en el “USCG Spar”, en estos
buceos vimos de todo, tortugas, una gran variedad de
peces y los tiburones tigre de arena.
El buceo con estos poderosos tiburones que lle-
gan a medir más de tres metros y pesar 500 Kg. es
apasionante, se desplazan por el agua muy tranqui-
los. En algunas ocasiones son rodeados por cientos
pequeños peces que utilizan a los grandes escualos
como escudo para defenderse.
Mientras estas buceando los ves pasar, cerca de
las grisáceas y oxidadas estructuras de los barcos
hundidos, lo que los hace verse como los fantasmas
de los tripulantes de las naves. Fue una experiencia
impresionante ya que los llegamos a ver más de 20
tiburones en un solo buceo a distancias en las que
les podías acariciar el vientre y ver las mandíbulas,
aproximadamente a no más de 20 centímetros del
lente de la cámara.
Con esta etapa cumplida ya llevamos tres de los
más peligrosos, el tiburón tigre, el tiburón toro y el ti-
burón tigre de arena, en la siguiente etapa pensamos
fotografiar al tiburón mako y al tiburón azul en la Isla
Catalina, California USA.
The expedition
We dived for three days on different shipwrecks:
The “Titan”, the “USS Indra”, and the “USCG Spar”. In
these dives we saw plenty: turtles, a great variety of
fishes, and, of course, sand tiger sharks.
Diving with these power sharks that can grow
up to be 10 feet in length and weigh over 1,200
lbs is inspiring. They glide across the waters very
smoothly and, on some occasions, are surrounded
by fleets of smaller fishes that used them to protect
themselves from other predators
While they are swimming by you, near the rusty
structures of the sunken ships, they appear as the
ghost of the former crew members of the ships. It
was an impressive experience given that we where
able to see more than 20 of these sharks in only
one dive, being able to glide their underbellies and
see their jaws approximately no further than 20cm
from the camera lens.
With this phase concluded, we have covered
three of the most dangerous sharks: the tiger shark,
the bull shark, and the sand tiger shark. On the next
phase, we will be photographing the Mako shark,
and the Blue shark of the Catalina Island, in Califor-
nia, USA.
