In the year 2000 BC, Iberians and Berbers inhabited both ends
of the Strait of Gibraltar. From1500 to 5000 BC, the presence of the
mythical cityof Tartessos is confirmed, aswell as the Spartel Bank,
lost underwater around 9000 BC, which could also be considered
as the lost Atlantis, referenced by Plato in his
Dialogues
.
“Ninethousandwasthesumofyearswhichhadelapsedsince
thewarwhichwas said to have taken place between thosewho
dwelt outside the Pillars of Heracles (…) the combatants on the
other side were commanded by the kings of Atlantis, which,
aswas saying, was an islandgreater inextent thanLibya and
Asia, afterwards sunk by an earth-
quake.”

Durante el año 2000 a. C., iberos y bereberes habitaban ambas orillas del Estrecho de Gibraltar. A partir
del 1500 al 500 a. C., se refiere la permanencia del legendario reino de Tartessos; así como de la miste-
riosa isla Espartel, perdida bajo el mar unos 9.000 años antes de Cristo; ambas podrían tratarse de la
desaparecida Atlántida, citada por Platón en sus
Diálogos
.
“Han pasado nueve mil años después de la guerra, que, según dicen, se suscitó entre los pueblos que habi-
tanmás acá ymás allá de las columnas de Hércules (...) De la otra parte estaban los reyes
de la isla Atlántida. Ya hemos dicho, que esta isla era en otro tiempo más grande que la
Libia y el Asia, hoy en día sumergida por los temblores de tierra”
