Relojería a un tema cultural y profundamente simbó-
lico. El Laberinto, según la mitología griega donde na-
ció, fue una creación del arquitecto Dédalo para encerrar en
él al Minotauro. Desde entonces, se le han atribuido un sinfín
de significados en todas las culturas y en todas las épocas y
no ha dejado de fascinar nunca gracias a su carácter miste-
rioso. Porque incluso delimitándolo, el sentido del Laberinto
supera el descubrimiento del camino correcto; se refiere a su
búsqueda.
Bajo los sutiles matices del jade verde, el Toric Quaestor
Labyrinthe incorpora una repetición de minutos cuya me-
lodía es de una pureza muy poco común, obtenida gracias
a diversas particularidades de su diseño. En primer lugar, el
movimiento se integra en la caja con una mayor estabilidad
gracias a un punto de fijación adicional. Situada justo deba-
jo del timbre, una pequeña pieza une el talón de este timbre
con la caja, garantizando de esta forma una perfecta fijación
y que el sonido se propague sin lamásmínima interferencia a
causa de las vibraciones.
A continuación, este movimiento incorpora un volante
de inercia que supone una innovación importante. Aparte de
garantizar una provisión constante de energía al muelle, este
dispositivo permite que la repetición deminutos funcione sin
que se produzca el másmínimo zumbidomecánico. Mientras
los dispositivos anterioresfuncionan con los movimientos de
una rueda dentada, el volante de inercia garantiza un silencio
mecánico total y mantiene únicamente el melodioso repique
de cada percusión. Por último, la caja de platino presenta una
forma generosa y especialmente diseñada para lograr una
acústica perfecta, con el fin de que la onda sonora oscile con
lasmejores frecuencias. La esfera de la pieza está constituida
por dos capas que constituyen el laberinto. La capa de fondo
es un disco de jade birmano de gran preciosidad sobre el que
se superpone una placa calada de oro blanco y ambas dan for-
ma a las ramificaciones del laberinto.
Mecanizada en primer lugar en máquinas de control nu-
mérico, esta placa se somete, a continuación, a un proceso de
acabado que supone, en solitario, más de 35 horas de trabajo.
Cada longitud de segmento o contorno del laberinto se angu-
la amano. Un total de52ángulos entrantes acentúan, de este
modo, laprofundidady labellezadel laberinto. El laberinto, tal
y como aparece representado aquí, es la estructura en la que
uno se extravía. Se pierde el sentido de la dirección, la noción
del tiempo y del mundo exterior; en ocasiones se alcanza un
estado contemplativo y sereno. El laberinto es, ante todo, la
búsqueda de unomismo.

oric Quaestor LabyrintheParmigiani Fleurier has
dedicated its latest haute horlogerie creation to a
profoundly symbolic cultural theme. According to
its origins inGreekmythology, the labyrinthwas initially in-
vented by the architect Daedalus in order to incarcerate the
Minotaur. Over time, it has takenona great number ofmean-
ings in different cultures, but itsmysterious nature has con-
tinued to fascinate. Because, even if you solve the labyrinth’s
riddles,itisaboutmorethanfindingtherightpath–thelaby-
rinth’s truevalue lies in thequest itself.
Under its subtle shades of jade green, the Toric Quaestor
Labyrinthe contains a minute repeater which uses several
special design features to produce an exceptionally pure
melody. Firstly, the movement is integrated into the
case with greater stability thanks to an additional
fixing point. Located just below the chime, a small
piece links the pawl of the chime to the case, thereby
ensuring that it is perfectly fixed and allowing the
sound to reverberate without any interference from
the vibrations.
Secondly, this movement has a flywheel, which is
a major innovation. Apart from ensuring a constant
supply of energy to the spring, this device allows the
minute repeater to operate without any mechanical
humming. While previous devices functioned with
the jerks of a toothed wheel, the flywheel ensures to-
tal mechanical silence, leaving only the sound of the
melodious chime each time it is struck. Finally, the
generously-sized platinum case is specially designed
to provide perfect acoustics which allow the sound
waves to oscillate at the best frequencies. The dial on
this piece consists of two layers which make up the
labyrinth. The bottom layer is a disc of extremely pre-
cious Burmese jade, onto which an openworked white
gold plate is superimposed to form the branching pas-
sages of the labyrinth.
This plate is first machined using CNC machines,
before undergoing a finishing process, which itself
represents more than 35 hours of work. Each seg-
ment length or contour in the labyrinth is bevelled
by hand. Fifty-two internal angles further emphasise
the depth and beauty of the maze. The labyrinth as it
is represented here is a structure inwhichwe lose ourselves.
Once inside, all sense of direction, notion of time, and of the
outsideworldseemtovanishinordertoachievesometimesa
calmstateofcontemplation.Thelabyrinthisbeforeanything
a search for the self.
