Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial comenzó
el proceso de descolonización. La reina Juliana firmó
en 1949 la transferencia de la soberanía a las Indias
Holandesas. Con dicha firma, los Países Bajos reco-
nocieron Indonesia como Estado independiente. Solo
Nueva Guinea siguió formando parte de los Países Ba-
jos hasta 1962. En 1963, las Naciones Unidas transfi-
rieron la administración del territorio a Indonesia.
El 15 de diciembre de 1954, la reina Juliana firmó el
Estatuto del Reino de los Países Bajos. Con dicho docu-
mento, Surinam y las Antillas Holandesas lograron la
categoría de país dentro del Reino con autonomía para
sus asuntos internos. En 1975, Surinam se convirtió
en república independiente y abandonó el Reino.
En 1986, Aruba (una de las seis islas de las Antillas
Holandesas) se convirtió en país autónomo dentro del
Reino. El 10 de octubre de 2010, Curazao y Sint Maar-
ten se unieron a Aruba como países autónomos den-
tro del Reino. Bonaire, Sint Eustatius y Saba se convir-
tieron en entidades públicas (municipios especiales)
que forman parte de los Países Bajos.
After the Second World War the process of de-
colonization began, Queen Juliana signed in 1949
the transfer of sovereignty to the Dutch Indies.
With this signature, the Netherlands recognized
Indonesia as an independent state. Only New Guin-
ea remained part of the Netherlands until 1962. In
1963, the United Nations transferred the adminis-
tration of the territory to Indonesia.
In December 15, 1954, Queen Juliana signed the
Charter for the Kingdomof the Netherlands. With this
document, Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles
achieved a country status within the Kingdom with
autonomy in its internal affairs. In1975, Surinamebe-
came an independent republic and left the Kingdom.
In 1986, Aruba (one of the six islands of the Neth-
erlands Antilles) became an autonomous country
within the Kingdomand in October 10, 2010, Curaçao
and Sint Maarten followed, Aruba joined the autono-
mous countries within the Kingdom. Bonaire, Sint
Eustatius and Saba became public entities (special
municipalities) that are part of the Netherlands.
