Pasando Blue Bay nos acercamos a la costa, porque
la barrera de coral se interrumpe durante 20 km. El pai-
saje cambia, los acantilados de roca oscura caen al mar,
azotados por fuertes olas y vigilados por las montañas
verdes. En el Soufleur el mar se embute bajo el acantila-
do para surgir rugiendo por un hoyo y un puente natural
que adorna las quebradas.
El basalto negro inventa un escenario dramático azo-
tado por las fuertes olas y en Souillac empieza de nuevo
la barrera de coral, inventando playas de arena blanca al
pie de las montañas Fantaisie y Cocotte (771 m).
Un viento trasero nos llevaba a gran velocidad, pa-
sando las bahías de Jacotet y du Cap para penetrar por
el Paso Saint Jacques en la laguna protegida por la
Península de Morne dominada por el pico Le Morne
Brabant (556 m).
Cuando buscábamos un lugar para anclar, el viento
dominante empezó a aumentar su fuerza y decidimos
salir de la laguna por el Paso de la Prairie, un sitio muy
conocido para el buceo, donde se encuentran meros,
tiburones de punta blanca y rayas. La corriente era
fuerte, el viento peligroso no permitía usar la vela pa-
ra dar la vuelta a la península, y pasando el cabo entra-
mos en la zona protegida, con poca brisa y mar tranquilo,
lo que nos permitió entrar en la laguna por el Paso de
L’Ambulante y anclarnos cerca de la Isla des Benitiers.
El escenario era magnífico: la laguna de azules cam-
biantes, el pico plano del Morne Brabant, las montañas
verdes que bajan hacia la costa con las nubes amarradas
Passing Blue Bay we sailed near the coast because
the coral barrier disappears for 20 km (12.4 m). The
panorama changes, the dark, rocky cliffs plunge into
the sea, lashed by strong waves and guarded by green
mountains. In Soufleur the sea presses against the
cliff to emerge, roaring, though a blowhole and a na-
tural bridge that adorns the gorge.
The black basalt creates a dramatic scenario lapped
with strong waves and, in Souillac, the new coral ba-
rrier begins, tracing white sand beaches at the foot of
the Fantaisie and Cocotte (771 m/2,529 ft) mountains.
A back wind sped us on our way, passing the Jaco-
tet and du Cap bays, to take the Saint Jacques Pass to
the protected lagoon on the Morne peninsula, which
is dominated by the Le Morne Brabant Peak (556
m/1,824 ft).
When we were looking for a place to anchor the do-
minant wind started to get stronger so we decided to
leave the lagoon through Prairie Pass, a well know dive
spot that is home to grouper, whitetip shark and rays.
The current was strong, the dangerous wind did not
allowus to use the sail to navigate around the peninsu-
la and, passing the cape, we entered a protected area,
where we found a faint breeze and calm waters, which
permitted us to enter the lagoon through the L’Ambu-
lante pass and anchor near Benitiers Island.
The scenery is magnificent: a lagoon of changing
blue hues, the flat peak of Morne Brabant, the green
mountains, with clouds that seemto be tied to its peaks,
