Yo soy reacio a decir que la arquitectura es nuestro
“trabajo”. En primer lugar, es nuestra pasión y tenemos
la suerte de poder ganarnos el sustento con él. En ese
sentido, muchos aspectos se reflejan en nuestro trabajo.
Con el fin de formar un repertorio en diseño, la exposición
esmuy importante. Nuestro padre es ingeniero y nuestra
madre es una artista, por lo tanto, nos exponemos a las
entidades que forman la disciplina de la arquitectura des-
deel principiodenuestrasvidas. Somosnavegantesyex-
cursionistas apasionados y nos sentimos humildes ante
la fuerza de la naturaleza y la belleza que revela. Crecimos
viendo el horizonte del Mediterráneo. Eso podría explicar
nuestra afinidad por las líneas horizontales, los espacios
abiertos y los trazos simplificados.
Los hermanos Najjar son de Beirut, Líbano, pero su
estudio se abrió en Viena en 1999, y más tarde en
Stuttgart. Parece que la mayoría de los arquitectos
van a Londres, me refiero a las relaciones natura-
les o comerciales entre Oriente Medio y “The City”.
¿Por qué Alemania y Austria (Centroeuropa)?
Es correcto, Alemania y Austria podrían no estar re-
lacionados con el Medio Oriente como Londres o París.
Como siempre, cuando se trata de innovación, usted
puede encontrar que losmejores ingenieros en estos país
colaboran al más alto nivel, hay un espíritu que busca la
creatividady la perfección. Tuvimos la oportunidadde tra-
bajar con losmejores ingenieros y artesanos en el campo,
lo que nos permitió dominar las tareas difíciles y nos dio
la reputación de ser buenos en la aplicación de conceptos
del diseño sin comprometer la calidad a lahora de la ejecu-
ción. Eso sin duda nos dio ventaja.
I am hesitant to say that architecture is our
“job”. In the first place, it is our passion and we
are lucky to be able to make our living with it.
In that sense, many aspects are reflected in our
work. To form a design repertoire the exposure
is very important. Our father is an engineer and
our mother is an artist, hence we were exposed
to the entities that form the discipline of archi-
tecture from early on. We are passionate sailors
and hikers and are humbled by the forces of na-
ture and the beauty it can reveal. We grew up
viewing the horizon of the Mediterranean. That
might explain our affinity to horizontal lines,
open spaces and streamlined vessels.
Brother Najjar are from Beirut, Lebanon, but your
studio was opened in Vienna simultaneously in
1999, and later in Stuttgart. It seems that majority
of architects go to London, I mean natural or com-
mercial relationship betweenMiddle East and “The
City”.WhyGermanyandAustria (EuropeanCenter)?
That is right, Germany and Austria might not be
linkedtotheMiddleEastinthewayLondonorParisare.
Butwhen it comes to innovation, youcanfindthere the
best engineerswhoareperformingat thehighest level;
thereisaspiritthatseeksforinventivenessandperfec-
tion.Wehadtheopportunitytoworkwiththefinesten-
gineers and craftsmen in the field, which allowed us to
master difficult tasks and gave us the reputation to be
good at implementing design concepts without com-
promising on the quality when it comes to execution.
That certainlygaveus our edge.
