“You already know how David, my father could
not build a house for the name of the LORD his God
because of the wars that moved around him, until
this put them under the soles of your feet. But now
Yahweh, God, I was left alone around; any enemy,
any adversity. I am, therefore, determined to build a
house to the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD
said to David my father: “The son of yours, I will put
in your place on your throne, that build the temple
inmy name”. So I order that cedars of Lebanonmust
be cut”. (1 Kings 5.16 to 20)
The Old Testament stories also notes that Solomon
overlaid the twenty cubits of the rear of the templewith
cedar boards fromfloor to the rafters, anddevoted to the
Blessed inside alongwith forty cubits before theBlessed
were in the Sanctuary. Cedar was all inside the building,
withbas-reliefsofgourdsandgarlandsofflowers.
“Tú ya sabes cómo David, mi padre, no pudo cons-
truir la casa al nombre de Yavé, su Dios, a causa de las
guerras que en rededor le movieron, hasta que Yavé
puso a sus enemigos bajo las plantas de sus pies. Pero
ahora Yavé, Dios, me ha dejado tranquilo en derredor;
ningún enemigo, ninguna adversidad. Heme, pues,
resuelto a construir un templo al nombre de Yavé, mi
Dios, según Yavé dijo a David, mi padre: “El hijo tuyo,
que yo pondré en tu lugar sobre tu trono, ese edificará
el Templo a mi nombre”. Así, pues, ordena que se me
corten cedros del Líbano”. (1 Reyes 5,16-20)
El relato veterotestamentario señala que Salo-
món también recubrió los veinte codos de la parte
posterior del templo con planchas de cedros, desde
el suelo hasta las vigas, y destinó el interior para el
Santísimo; y los cuarenta codos delante del Santísi-
mo constituían el Santuario.
