Generalidades del país
Líbano, el “País de los Cedros”, se localiza en
el Cercano Oriente, en Asia, es el punto central
entre Europa y África, al extremo oriental del mar
Mediterráneo. Tiene 10,452 kilómetros cuadrados
de territorio, los cuales se encuentran limitados,
al norte y al este, con Siria; al oeste con el mar
Mediterráneo y al sur con Israel. Siete mil años de
historia han hecho de este país, aunque pequeño
en dimensión, un gigante cultural, rico en arqueo-
logía y poseedor de valiosísimas herencias de im-
portantes civilizaciones, lo que se conjunta con
una naturaleza sorprendente.
Su nombre proviene del término semítico “Laban”
(blanco) y se le dio debido a que sus hermosas monta-
ñas están cubiertas de nieve seis meses al año.
Con una población de cuatro millones de habitan-
tes, Líbano se ha extendido alrededor del mundo a
través de sus emigrados y los descendientes de éstos,
pues cuenta con entre nueve y quince millones, los
cuales han echado raíces, especialmente en América,
África Occidental y Oceanía, teniendo comunidades de
gran importancia en México, Brasil, Argentina, Esta-
dos Unidos, Canadá, Australia, etc.

Lebanon, the country of cedars, it is located near
the middle Orient, in Asia, it is the central point be-
tween Europe and Africa, in the far east side of the
Mediterranean ocean. It has 10,452 square kilome-
ters inside its territory which limit to the north and
east with Syria; to the west with the Mediterranean
sea and to the south with Israel. Seven thousand
years of history havemade this country, although it
might have a small dimension, it is a cultural giant,
rich in archeology and owner of highly esteemed in-
heritance of important civilizations, whichmakes a
unique conjunction with its astounding nature.
It’s name comes from the semantic term “Leba-
non” (white) and it was given due to the beautiful
mountains covered in snow six months of the year.
With a population of four million inhabitants,
Lebanonhasextendedthroughouttheworldthrough
its migrants and the descendent of these, due to the
fact that it counts with a number estimated in nine
to fifteen million who have scattered roots, espe-
cially in America, West Africa and Australia, having
communities of great importance in Mexico, Brazil,
Argentina, United States of America, Canada, etc.
