Day 2
On the Isabela Islandwe sawother types of igua-
nas. They were ground iguanas and got our atten-
tion because of their huge size and peculiar golden
yellow color. After a short time of fun kayaking, we
took the opportunity to observe several pairs of
mating turtles. Still on Isabela Island, but on the
west side, we went up a hill to see the crater where
the Darwin Lagoon is located, a saltwater basin
which is above sea level.
Back at the Evolution we were lucky. Almost a
hundred dolphins accompanied us on our sail. The
34 passengers on the ship, from children to grand-
parents, took photos, observed with binoculars and
were screaming with excitement at the sight. The
afternoon had another thrilling event in store for
us. It was the crossing of the line of the Ecuador and
to observe the exact zero mark on the navigation
compass of the ship.
We arrived at Bartolome Island, where we
climbed to the top of a hill to enjoy a spectacular
view. This site has a rustic ladder for an easy way
up. There are 600 meters uphill to get to the top,
where you can see the island as it was after the last
volcanic eruption. That afternoon we visited a great
extension of lava, rich in whimsical shapes and tex-
tures, as if an artist had created them. Among the
animals that can be seen near the sea are the color-
ful crabs and the penguins.
Día 2
En la isla Isabela vimos otro tipo de iguanas. Eran
terrestres y llamaban la atención por su gran tamaño
y color amarillo dorado. Después de un rato de divertir-
nos haciendo kayak y aprovechando la oportunidad de
observar varias parejas de tortugas marinas apareán-
dose. Aún en la isla Isabela, pero en el costado oeste,
subimos una colina para observar el cráter donde se
localiza la Laguna Darwin, un depósito de agua salada
que está por encima del nivel del mar.
De vuelta en el Evolution tuvimos suerte, porque
casi un centenar de delfines nos acompañaron en
nuestro navegar. Los 34 pasajeros del barco, desde
niños hasta abuelos, tomamos fotos, observamos
con binoculares y dimos gritos de emoción ante el
espectáculo. La tarde nos tenía deparado otro even-
to emocionante, como fue cruzar la línea del Ecuador
y poder observar la marca de los cero grados exactos
en la brújula de navegación del barco.
Llegamos a la isla de Bartolomé, donde subimos a lo
alto de una colina para disfrutar de una vista espectacu-
lar. Este sitio cuenta con una escalera rústica que facili-
ta el ascenso. Son 600 metros de subida para llegar a la
cúspide, desde donde se ve la isla tal cual quedó después
de la última erupción volcánica. Esa tarde visitamos una
gran extension de lava, donde abundan las formas y tex-
turas caprichosas, como si un artista las hubiera creado.
Entre los animales que pueden verse cerca del mar están
los coloridos cangrejos y los pingüinos.
