other Nature once again shows her might;
this time in the form of a devastating
hurricane that struck the coastal areas of
the southern part of the State of Quintana Roo. The
enormous cyclone struck the towns of Chetumal,
Carrillo Puerto, Mahahual, and Chinchorro, with
gales of up 300 km per hour. It was really very dan-
gerous. Fortunately, and thanks to the preventive
efforts undertaken by the different authorities,
there was no loss of human life but only material
damage, mainly in Mahahual —a small tourist
town. Yes, hurricane Dean did turn out to be as
devastating as announced by the media some days
earlier.
I am a permanent resident of Cancun, just
north of where hurricane Dean hit hardest. The
winds here were not too strong but the tidal swells

a madre naturaleza una vez más nos demostró su
poderío, y ahora lo hizo en forma de un devasta-
dor huracán que azotó la zona de la costa del sur
del Estado de Quintana Roo. El enorme ciclón arreme-
tió contra las poblaciones de Chetumal, Carrillo
Puerto, Mahahual y Chinchorro con vientos de hasta
300 km por hora. Realmente fue muy peligroso. Por
fortuna, y gracias a la acción de prevención de las dife-
rentes autoridades, no hubo pérdidas humanas, sólo
materiales y sobre todo en Mahahual, pequeño pobla-
do turístico. Sí, en definitiva, el huracán Dean fue
devastador como lo anunciaron en los medios de
comunicación con días de anticipación.
Yo vivo permanentemente en Cancún, al norte de
donde el huracán Dean se dejó sentir con más fuerza,
aquí los vientos no fueron muy fuertes, pero sí las
marejadas. A pesar de que se tomaron las precauciones
