que atestiguan la fundación de esa playa exclusiva, pe-
ro las más impresionantes se esconden en los bosques
de pinos al margen de la ciudad de edificios. Punta del
Este ha sabido conservar su fascinante ecosistema al la-
do de una ciudad que vibra en el calor del verano y se
apaga con el frío del invierno cuando los vientos del sur
traen un aire polar.
Con un cielo azul deslavado y un viento dominante
suroeste, señal de la cercanía de unmal tiempo, zarpamos
temprano para nuestro último día de navegación hacia
Buenos Aires. El viento nos empujaba casi en línea recta, el
mar azul poco a poco se transformaba en un río de color
marrón. En el horizonte desaparecían las costas del Uru-
guay y al sur surgían las de Argentina. La silueta de
Montevideo se había desvanecido mucho antes que se
asomara la de Buenos Aires.
Gracias a ese buen viento alcanzamos Puerto Ma-
dero cuando las luces de la capital del tango se refleja-
ban en el río, tiñendo de oro el río plateado, pintando
de rosa las nubes que al este estaban apareciendo. En-
vueltos en el tumulto de la gran ciudad, olvidamos el
cansancio y el remolino de la actividad nocturna nos
llevó a admirar los mejores bailarines de tango en el
Café Tortoni.
El Río de la Plata es una gran sonrisa abierta en la cos-
ta atlántica de América del Sur. Alimentado por los cursos
de los ríos Uruguay y Paraná, alberga paradisiacos desti-
nos que hacen realidad los sueños de los navegantes.

ful people, in the most famous resort in the Southern Cone.
Lying in the shadow of its lighthouse is a neighborhood
of elegant homes, which are witnesses to the founding of
this exclusive beach resort. However, the most impressive
ones are hidden in the pine forest on the edge of this city of
buildings. Punta del Este has known how to preserve its fas-
cinating ecosystem that is located near a citywhich vibrates
in the summer heat and hibernates in the winter cold, when
the southern winds blow in polar air. Under a pale blue sky
and a prevailing southwestern wind, a sign of approaching
bad weather, early the next day we sailed on the last part of
our journey to Buenos Aires. The wind pushed us almost in a
straight line and, little by little, the blue sea turned into a
brown river. On the horizon, the coasts of Uruguay disap-
peared and, to the south, rose those of Argentina.
Montevideo’s silhouette faded a long time before Buenos
Aires’ came into sight.
Thanks to a good wind, we reached Puerto Madero when
the lights of the tango capital were reflected in the river, dye-
ing the silver waters with gold and painting the clouds
appearingtotheeastinpink.Envelopedinthehustleandbus-
tle of thegreat city, we forgot thatwewere tiredandgot swept
up in thewhirlwind of the nightlife, which took us to the Café
Tortoni to see the best tango dancers.
Río de la Plata is like a wide, open smile lying on the
Atlantic coast of South America. Fed by the Uruguay and
Paraná rivers, it shelters heavenly destinations whichmake
the dreams of many sailors a reality.
