E
n cualquier punto geográfico, el cine suele
ser la primera ventana por donde se cono-
ce el mundo. ¿Quién no pasó incontables
tardes entre balazos, explosiones y per-
secuciones, recorriendo las calles de San
Francisco, Los Ángeles o Nueva York?, ¿quién no se sor-
prendió con los templos, montañas o calles de místicas
ciudades asiáticas?
Definitivamente el cine es mucho más que entrete-
nimiento, muchomás que arte; cada nueva película nos
devela un nuevo destino; así, todos hemos construido
un ambicioso itinerario de viaje, que nos ha llevadomu-
cho más lejos de lo que cualquier hombre ha logrado
llegar en la historia de la humanidad y un lugar del que
no podemos prescindir es Roma. Esta ciudad cargada
de historia y romanticismo es tan fotogénica que pa-
reciera haberse construido pensando en el cine. Roma,
la ciudad a la que Federico Fellini se refería como el “set
viviente”. La cuna de muchos de los más impresionan-
tes artistas, filósofos, músicos, arquitectos, e incluso,
políticos de la historia.
Al caminar por sus calles se respira la historia de
un pueblo que ha vivido, sufrido y creado muchos
de los avances en derecho, política y filosofía que
conformaron el mundo que hoy conocemos. ¿Pero
qué es lo que hace que Roma haya sido a lo largo de
la historia una de las locaciones más socorridas por
la industria fílmica mundial?

n any geographical point, the movies usu-
ally are the first window through which one
gets to know the world. Who didn’t spend
countless evenings between gunshots,
explosions and chases, going through the
streets of San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York?,
Who was not amazed with the temples, mountains
or streets of mystical Asian cities?
Definitively the cinema is much more than en-
tertainment, much more than art; each new movie
reveals to us a new destination; thus, we all have
built an ambitious travel itinerary that has taken
us much further than any man has managed in the
history of mankind and one place that we cannot do
without is Rome. This city loaded with history and
romanticism is so photogenic that it would seem to
have been built with cinema inmind. Rome, the city
that Federico Fellini used to call as “the livingmovie
set”. The cradle of many of the most impressive art-
ists, philosophers, musicians, architects, and even
politicians of history.
Walking through its streets one can breathe
the history of a people that has lived, suffered
and created many of the advances in law, poli-
tics and philosophy that conformed the world
we know today. But what made Rome throughout
history one of the most sought-after locations by
the world film industry?
