amibia es el lugar para descubrir uno de los
desiertos más bellos del mundo. Desde el
momento en el que llegué, descubrí que la
mayoría de las personas que vivían ahí eran de origen
alemán. Muchas me contaron la historia de su familia;
de cómo colonizaron ese maravilloso país en el siglo
XIX. El paisaje me subyugaba, los cuentos me acurru-
caban y disfrutaba de ese gran viaje.
Recorriendo el país en minivan, nuestro primer
destino después de aterrizar a Windhoek (se pro-
nuncia Winduk), una tranquila capital con casas de
tipo europeo en el sur. Nos instalamos en el soberbio
Wolwedans Lodge construido sobre las dunas. La luna
inundaba las dunas con una caricia de luz inventada
por la África Austral, el aire levantaba la arena para
esculpir la obra de la naturaleza, los velos del mosqui-
tero volaban al ritmo del soplo del desierto, la noche
se vestía con el brillo de las estrellas. Wolwedans
es una tierra de imágenes que invitan a admirar el
esplendor de un maravilloso mundo.
Con el sol, las dunas rojas brillaban como rubíes
dentro de un horizonte sin final, decorado por monta-
ñas moradas que delimitaban un cuadro lleno de ocres.

amibia is the place to discover some of the
most beautiful deserts in the world, not-
withstanding its already fascinating flora
and fauna. Upon my arrival I discover that most of
the people that live therewere German. They relate to
me the story of their families, and how they settled
in this country during the period of colonization in
the 19th century.
Travelling across the country by minivan, we
headed to the Wolwedans desert, after spending a
short time in the peaceful capital city of Windhoek
(pronounced “Win-duk”), wherewewereable toadmire
the cozy, European style houses. The Wolwedans
desert is home to the Wolwedans Lodge, an impres-
sive hotel built at the top of dunes. It was already
nightfall by the time we got there, and the moon-
light covered the surface of the dunes. The mosquito
nets swayed softly in the wind, and, as it is to be
expected of the African night sky, the whole ofitwas
adornedbyhundredths of thousands of stars.
Once the sun rises, the dunes abandon the silver
hue it had acquired at night, and adopt their char-
acteristic red color, which shines not unlike a ruby.
