Las águilas y los nativos americanos
Para muchas culturas de nativos americanos el águi-
la calva es un animal sagrado, consideran que vuelan
más alto que cualquier otra criatura, por lo que están
más cerca del Creador, como señaló Robert Holden,
director adjunto del Congreso Nacional de Indios
Americanos, cuando solicitaron al Servicio de Pesca y
Vida Silvestre de Estados Unidos (FWS, por sus siglas
en inglés) permiso para matar dos ejemplares con fi-
nes religiosos. Algunas tribus utilizan las plumas en
ceremonias sagradas o como símbolo de honor para
personas que lograron una gran hazaña.

The eagles and Native Americans
For many Native American cultures, the Bald
Eagle is a holy animal; they believe that it flies
higher than any other creature, being thus
closer to the Creator; as stated by Robert Hold-
en, Deputy Director of the National Congress of
American Indians (NCAI), when they applied to
the US Fishing and Wildlife Service (FWS) for a
permit to kill two specimens for religious pur-
poses. Some tribes wear the feathers in sacred
ceremonies or as a symbol of honor for people
who accomplish a great feat.
