“amapola azul del

Himalaya”. /

The

mythical “Blue Poppy

of the Himalayas”.

There is also a mythi-

cal flower: the Meconopsis

(Meconopsis grandis)

, of-

ten referred to as the only

poppy in the world that is

truly blue, so rare to wit-

ness, that its existence

is considered a myth in

the Himalaya.

Although

Bhutan

is notably mindful of

its

environment,

hasn’t exempted the

nation from suffering

the threats from global

climatic change; this has

resulted in a rise in flooding,

and the retraction of glaciers in

the park. Caretakers constantly

watch out for damages caused by

urbanization, the construction of

roads, trash from picnic areas, poachers

and collectors, among others.

Aquí crece una flor mítica, la Amapola azul

(Meconopsis

grandis)

, referida a menudo como la única amapola verda-

deramente azul del mundo, tan rara de observar, que su

existencia es considerada como un mito del Himalaya.

Aunque Bután es extremadamente cuidadoso con el

medio ambiente, esto no lo exime de sufrir las amena-

zas que conlleva el cambio climático mundial, lo que

ha provocado el aumento de inundaciones y la retrac-

ción de los glaciares del parque. Los cuidadores vigilan

constantemente el daño producido por la urbanización,

construcción de carreteras, basura de merenderos,

cazadores furtivos y coleccionistas, entre otros.
