A
ntiguo puerto de la costa del Mediterráneo, en Jafa pasaba casi
todo el comercio destinado a la antigua Jerusalén. Alojado sobre
una pequeña loma, sus callejones guardan el encanto de antaño
con sus históricos edificios y su puerto pesquero donde a gente de Tel
Aviv viene a comer. Partes de la Vieja Ciudad han sido renovadas, con-
virtiendo a Jaffa en un atractivo turístico con todos los viejos edificios
restaurados, galerías de arte, teatros, y tiendas de souvenir, restau-
rantes, cafés. La Plaza del Reloj, Construida en 1906 en honor del 25
aniversario del Sultan Abdul Hamid, se convirtió en el centro de Jaffa.
Algunos de los sitios de interés son
: La panadería Abulafia en la
calle Yefet (la principal de Jaffa) es famosa y símbolo de la coexistencia
árabe-judía; La Mezquita de Mahmoudia la cual fue construida en 1812
por Abu Nabut (el gobernador durante el siglo 19) e incluye una fuente
pública (
Sabil
) para los peregrinos; La Iglesia de San Pedro, una iglesia
Franciscana construida en el siglo 19 sobre las ruinas de la Fortaleza de
los Cruzados, la cual sirve también como hostal. Se dice que Napoleon
se hospedo mientras fue hostal; La iglesia de San Michael y Santa
Tabitha, Unmonasterio ortodoxo griego, restaurado en 1994. La de San
Michael sirve a creyentes romanos, y la capilla de Santa Tabitha sirve a
los creyentes rusos y hebreos; El Monasterio Ruso de San Pedro, con-
struido en 1895, en el sitio donde resucito San Pedro. La Roca de
Andromeda, de acuerdo con la legenda esta fue la roca que en la cual la
hermosa Andromeda fue encadenada; Los callejones Zodiac, una red de
callejones restaurados llenos de galerías de arte, que conducen al puer-
to de Jaffa; Lo más antiguo es Las Viejas Puertas Egipcias, alrededor de
3,500 de antigüedad, las cuales han sido restauradas, entre otros. /

Old City have been renovated, turning Jaffa into a tourist attrac-
tion featuring old restored buildings, art galleries, theaters, sou-
venir shops, restaurants, sidewalk cafes andpromenades. The Clock
Square, built in 1906 in honor of Sultan Abdul Hamid II’s 25th
anniversary, became the center of Jaffa.

Street (the main street of Jaffa) is a famous bakery and a symbol of
Jewish-Arab coexistence; Mahmoudia Mosque which was built in
1812 by Abu Nabut (the city governor during the 19th century) and
includes a public water fountain (
Sabil
) for pilgrims; St. Peter’s
Church, a Franciscan church, built in the 19th century on the
remains of Crusaders’ fortress, which serves also as a hostel. It is
said that Napoleon stayed in that church while it was a hostel; St.
Michael and St. Tabitha Church, a Greek Orthodox Monastery,
restored in1994. St. Michael church serves Romanianbelievers, and
St. Tabitha chapel serves Russian believers, in Russian and Hebrew;
RussianSt. PeterMonastery, built in1895, at the sitewhere St. Peter
resurrected St. Tabitha. The Andromeda rock, according to legends
this was the rock to which beautiful Andromeda was chained; The
Zodiac alleys, a network of restored alleys filled with art galleries,
leading to the Jaffa seaport: The most ancient are the Ancient
Egyptian gates, about 3,500 years old, which have been restored,
among others.
