San Petersburgo
Fundada en 1703 por el Zar Pedro el Grande, San
Petersburgo es una ciudad muy joven comparada
con las grandes ciudades de Rusia y Europa. A pesar
de su relativamente corto tiempo de vida, esta ciu-
dad se convirtió en una de las más significativas de
Europa. La ciudad entera esta prácticamente forma-
da por un sinnúmero de palacios y excelentes ejem-
plos de la arquitectura barroca y neoclásica.
La Iglesia del Salvador de la Sangre Derramada
Construida por orden de Alejandro III entre 1883 y
1907 en el mismo lugar donde el Zar Alejandro II fue
asesinado, esta hermosa iglesia es una de las princi-
pales atracciones de San Petersburgo. La construc-
ción fue planeada imitando el estilo de las iglesias
antiguas rusas de los siglos XVI - XVII.
La decoración interior y exterior de la iglesia está
hecha con hermosos mosaicos. Su diseño quedó a
cargo de reconocidos artistas rusos, como
Vasnetsov, Nesterov y Vrubel.
La iglesia estuvo cerrada durante la década de los
1930, cuando los bolcheviques, en su intento de elimi-
nar la religión, destruyeron un número de iglesias en

Saint Petersburg

short time of life, this city turned into one of the most
significant ones of Europe. The entire city is practically
formed by a great number of palaces and excellent
examples of the baroque and neoclassic architecture.
The Church of the Savior of the Shed Blood
Built by the order of Alexander III between 1883 and
1907 in the same placewhere the Czar Alexander II was
murdered, this beautiful church is one of the main
attractions of Saint Petersburg. The construction was
planned imitating the style of the ancient Russian
churches of the XVIth – XVIIth centuries.
The interior and exterior decoration of the
church is made with beautiful mosaics. Its design
was in charge of well-known Russian artists, such as
Vasnetsov, Nesterov and Vrubel.

thirties, when the Bolsheviks, in their intent to elimi-
nate the religion, destroyed a number of churches
