A
l norte de la provincia de Québec existe un
mundo desconocido, habitado por los inuits de
Canadá. Mundo en el que las sombras se alargan,
el sol desaparece a medianoche para surgir dos horas
más tarde, y el eterno invierno se cubre con una capa
blanca, vistiendo el mar con hielo. Los glaciares han
dejado sus huellas sobre las rocas, esculpieronunpaisa-
je insólito, de escasas montañas y muchos lagos. La
costa es sorprendente, la vida, intrigante. Es un mundo
misterioso, al norte del Paralelo 55, bajo el Círculo Polar.
Esa gran península se encuentra delimitada al
oeste por la Bahía de Hudson, un mar interno al sur
del gran canal natural que comunica el Atlántico con
el Pacífico, utilizado por los barcos cuando los hielos
se derriten. Al norte la bordea el Estrecho de Hudson,
camino muy frecuentado por las ballenas, y la Bahía
de Ungava, donde los paisajes insólitos desafían el
clima extremoso. Al este, el Mar de Labrador baña la

lengthen, the sun disappears at midnight only to rise
two hours later, and the endless winter covers every-
thing – including the sea – with a white layer of snow
and ice. The glaciers have left their prints over the
rocks, sculpting a unique landscape with few moun-
tains and many lakes. The coast is impressive and life
itself is intriguing. This mysterious world north of
Parallel 55 lies just beneath the Polar Circle.
The boundary of this great peninsular is found to
the west of Hudson Bay, a land-locked ocean to the
south of the great natural canal that connects the
Atlantic with the Pacific, utilized by ships when the ice
melts. On the northern border lies the Hudson Straits,
a route frequented by whales, and Ungava Bay, where
the unusual landscape seems to defy the extreme cli-
