nieve. Es una sensación fabulosa.
Regresamos a Puvirnituq cuando el sol bajaba en
el horizonte, pintando el cielo de fabulosos colores.
Desde allí salimos por el único camino, de cuatro kiló-
metros que lleva a un lago. Soberbio paisaje con cari-
búes, salmones en los ríos, líquenes y flores de
verano.
Ivujivik
El trayecto desde Puvirnituq hasta Ivujivik en avión
nos permitió admirar el magnífico paisaje desde el
aire, una costa dibujada por los hielos que han deja-
do miles de islas, bahías, estuarios y penínsulas con
formas extrañas, como la de Akulivik, donde descen-
dió el avión para aterrizar en el pequeño aeropuerto
desolado. Ese pueblo se aloja sobre una larga penín-
sula en medio del mar, que brilla a la luz del verano.
Llegamos a Ivujivik, el pueblo más al norte de
Québec, rodeado por impresionantes acantilados que
se hunden en las aguas del Estrecho de Dignes. Las dos
calles bajan a la playa, casas idénticas, niños que jue-
gan béisbol y el supermercado como punto de encuen-
tro. Aquí las horas de noche son todavíamás reducidas,
el frío más intenso, el paisaje más espectacular. Desde
la punta este, los habitantes han instalado un mirador
para observar las ballenas y cazarlas con rifle, y es el
mejor lugar para gozar de esas puestas de sol eternas,
cuando el sol baja con una trayectoria casi horizontal,
encendiendo el horizonte.
Al día siguiente salimos en canoa con Adamie
Kalingo, para recorrer los fiordos donde desembocan
violentos torrentes, fabulosas bahías, en las que
caen las cascadas desde lo alto de los acantilados.

We returned to Puvirnituq when the sun set below
the horizon, painting the sky with fabulous colors. From
there we left along the only way out, a four-kilometer
path that eventually took us to a lake. Stunning scenery
with caribou, salmonswimming in rivers, and lichenand
summer flowers.
Ivujivik
The route from Puvirnituq to Ivujivik in airplane
allowed us to admire the magnificent scenery from
above, the shore delineated by ice left by thousands of
strangely shaped islands, bays, estuaries and peninsu-
las, like that of Akulivik. Finally, the plane descended
and landed in a small, deserted airport. This town
spread out over a long peninsula in the middle of the
sea, reflecting the brilliant summer light.
We finally arrived in Ivujivik, the town furthest north
of Quebec, surrounded by impressive cliffs that plum-
meted into the waters of the Dignes Straits. The two
streets led to the beach, exposing identical houses and
childrenplayingbaseball. Themainplace tomeet seemed
to be the supermarket. Here nighttime was shorter, the
coldmore intenseand thesceneryevenmorespectacular.
From the eastern point, the inhabitants built an observa-
tiondeck towatchwhales andhunt themwith rifles. This
is the best spot to enjoy the setting of the eternal sun,
when the bright star falls in a nearly horizontal trajecto-
ry and lights up the entire horizon.
The following day we left in canoe with Adamie
Kalingo to follow the fiords where violent torrents of
water and fabulous bays emptied out, and where
waterfalls plunged from the highest cliffs. Although
