No. 1, Op. 46: 1) Amanecer, 2) Muerte de Ase, 3) Dan-
za de Anitra, 4) En el salón del Rey de la Montaña
La primera suite abre con una pintura musical de
la naturaleza y su espléndido amanecer. La músi-
ca está dentro del estilo de una barcarola, como
fondo a una melodía bucólica escuchamos ecos de
un yodel y cencerros de vacas. Una conmovedora
elegía describe la triste muerte de Ase en la obra
de Ibsen. La danza de Anitra es un baile rítmico,
oriental en tiempo de mazurca.
El ambiente exótico se refleja en el uso del
triángulo. Las cuerdas se encargan de reforzar
el ambiente sensual. El movimiento final nos ha-
bla de troles y gigantes y gnomos que se mueven
en un tema grotesco hasta adquirir el terror de la
gran sonoridad.

tra’s Dance, 4) In the Hall of the Mountain King
The opening movement of this first suite is a nature
picture of morning, the music is in the style of a bar-
carolle. As a background to a bucolic melody we hear
echoes of a mountain yodel and cowbells. This is fol-
lowed by a poignant elegy for muted strings that
accompanied Ase’s death in the play. Anitra’s dance,
the third movement, is a rhythmically exciting ori-
ental dance in the tempo of a Mazurka.
Theexoticatmosphere isaccentuated intheorches-
trationthroughtheuseofatriangle.Thestringscontrib-
ute to the over-all sensual mood. The final movement,
speakingofthelandofgnomesandtrolls,isconstructed
fromasinglegrotesque-likemotivewhichtheorchestra
develops toobtainterror and frightfull atmosphere.
