Vaticano
La Ciudad del Vaticano, es el país más pequeño del
mundo y es uno de los seis microestados europeos. Su
lengua oficial es el latín y tiene una extensión de 44 ha.
Alberga la Santa Sede y su jefe de estado es el Papa. En
este lugar se encuentra la basílica de San Pedro, la cual
abarca un 7% del territorio total del Vaticano.
Un paseo por
-Piazza de San Pedro. Esta plaza de forma elíptica
fue diseñada por el arquitecto y escultor Bernini para
la basílica de San Pedro. Los dos pasajes de columnas
abrazan la explanada, enmarcándola para reunir a las
multitudes. Se ingresa desde Via Della Conciliazione
dejando a sus espaldas el Castel Sant’Angelo.
-Basílica de San Pedro. Fue construida en el lugar
en donde san Pedro fue martirizado y sepultado. Esta
iglesia es una de las cuatro basílicas Papales donde el
Papa es obispo. Representa el centro de la fe católica
y es aquí donde se reúne un gran número de fervien-
tes peregrinos de todo el mundo durante todo el año.
-Museo del Vaticano. Aquí se encuentra una de las
más grandes colecciones de arte del mundo. Este mu-
seo también alberga la Capilla Sixtina con los frescos de
Miguel Ángel.

sus dimensiones: 186m. de
longitud, 140m. de anchura
y 120m. de altura. Fue
construida en el siglo IV por
Constantino, sobre el lugar
de la sepultura del apóstol
San Pedro. Se comenzó a
reedificar en 1506 en estilo
renacentista y barroco,
hasta que en 1546Miguel
Ángel asumió el proyecto.
En 1626 el Papa Urbano VIII
consagró el nuevo templo.

Awalk through
-Piazza de San Pedro. This elliptic shaped plaza was
designed by the architect and sculptor Bernini for
the St. Peter’s Basilica. The two pathways of columns
embrace the open platform, framing it to gather the
multitudes of people. It can be entered from the Via
Della Conciliazione leaving behind the Sant’Angelo.
-St. Peter’s Basilica. Was built in the place where
Peter went through martyrdom and was buried. This
church is one of the four basilicas where the Pope per-
forms as Bishop. It represents the center of the Catho-
lic faith and is here where great numbers of faithful
travelers fromaround theworld gather all year round.
-Museum of the Vatican. Here is one of the
largest art collections of the world. This museum
also holds the Sistine Chapel with the frescos of
Michelangelo.
