viento, mar y luces.

Bakú fue señalado como capital de los milagros en las

escrituras antiguas; y mencionado en los manuscritos

de los tiempos de Menes, primer faraón del Antiguo

Egipto y fundador de la Dinastía I, 3150 a. C., así como

en los textos tallados en piedras (ordenados por los

generales Pompeyo y Lúculo durante la invasión del

Cáucaso, bajo el mandato del primer emperador ro-

mano Cesar Augusto Octaviano) los cuales aún pue-

den observarse en varios lugares de su periferia.

Los orígenes de la ciudad-capital de Azerbaiyán

se registraron en el siglo VI d.C.; sin embargo fue fun-

dada en el año 885. A su nombre-de origen persa- se

le atribuyen dos significados probables: bad kube -

ciudad de los vientos y bagh kuh - montaña de Dios,

aunque existen otras teorías de la procedencia de su

nombre. En 1991 se convirtió en la capital de la nueva

República independiente de Azerbaiyán. Hoy por hoy,

la vista aérea de la ciudad proporciona una fotografía

donde pasado y modernidad se fusionan para brindar

un panorama asombroso.

Baku, city of wind,

sea, and light

In ancient texts, Baku was named as the capital of

miracles, and was mentioned in manuscripts dur-

ing Menes lifetime while he was the first pharaoh of

the Ancient Egypt and founder of the 1st Dynasty, in

3150 b.C.. It is alsomentioned in stone tablets (which

were compiled by generals Pompey and Lucius dur-

ing the Caucus invasion under the command of the

first Roman emperor, Caesar Augustus Octavius),

some of which still can be seen in various places.

The origins of Azerbaijan’s capital-city date

back to the 6th century b.C.; however, it was found-

ed in 885. It’s name--of Persian origin--it’s attrib-

uted to two possible meanings: bad kube, city of

wind; and bagh kuh, mountain of God. In spite of

this, there exists other theories concerning the

origin of the name. In 1991, it became the capital

of the new independent Republic of Azerbaijan. As

of today, aerial views of the city create an image

where the past and our modern time fuse and dis-

play a sensational panorama.
