a Fundación Parque Zoológico de São Paulo
(FPZSP) se encuentra en la ciudad más grande
de Brasil. Ofrece a sus visitantes numerosas op-
ciones culturales, gastronómicas, de complejos hote-
leros, compras y ocio.
Brasil es consideradounode los países conmayor bio-
diversidadenelmundo; sinembargo, el aumentode la de-
forestación, la fragmentación de las selvas tropicales y el
comercio ilegal de animales silvestres mantienen elevado
el número de especies en grave peligro de extinción.
La FPZSP tiene como misión mantener una colec-
ción de animales vivos procedentes de diferentes par-
tes del mundo, no sólo para la educación y la recreación
del público, sino para la realización de la investigación
científica, al igual que la comprensión y aprendizaje co-
rrecto a los animales. En la institución se lleva a cabo la
reproducción de algunas especies amenazadas de ex-
tinción, tiene un papel importante en la conservación,
la difusión de conocimientos a través de conferencias
científicas y proyectos de educación ambiental.
Desde su inauguración en 1958, el zoológico reci-
bió a más de 85 millones de visitantes, con un prome-
dio anual de aproximadamente 1,6 millones de perso-
nas. En 2012, fue reconocido como el mejor atractivo
de la ciudad de São Paulo para los niños.
La ciudad de São Paulo se inserta en laMata Atlántica,
un bioma brasileño que ha sido ocupado históricamente,
del cual restan, en la actualidad, sólo8,5%de suextensión
original. La Mata Atlántica es considerada un hotspot de
acceso global, reconocido como Reserva de la Biosfera por
la UNESCO y patrimonio nacional brasileño.

he Zoo Park Foundation of São Paulo (FPZSP
for its acronym in Spanish) is located in the
suburbs of the city, which is the largest in
Brazil. It offers its visitors several cultural options,
gastronomy, hostelry, shopping and entertainment.
Brazil is the considered one of the countries with
most biodiversity in the world; however with the in-
crease in deforestation, the fragmentation of rain-
forests and illegal commerce of wild species at a rise,
these categories are in grave danger of extinction.
The FPZSP´
s mission is to maintain a collection
of live animals fromdifferent parts of the world, not
only for the education and recreation of the general
public but also for scientific investigations, as well
as the correct perception of wildlife. In the institu-
tion, the reproduction of some species threatened
by extinction is supervised and has an important
role in the conservancy of its race, the diffusion of
knowledge through scientific conferences and proj-
ects for environmental education is encouraged.

São Paulo is inserted in the Atlantic forest, a
Brazilian bioma historically occupied, of which cur-

access, known as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO
and national heritage of Brazil.
