E
l pico Torrecerredo, con 2,648metros de elevación, está en el Concejo
de Cabrales; es una de las 11 cumbres que rebasan los dosmil metros
de altura en el Principado de Asturias. Y así como altas montañas,
esta región tiene fosas marinas tan hondas como el Cañón de Avilés, con
casi 5 mil metros de profundidad, sobre el que reza una placa: “Cañón de
Avilés. Valle sumergido que atraviesa transversalmente la plataforma y el
talud. Es el más profundo del mundo, va desde los 175 metros sobre la pla-
taforma hasta los 4.750 metros en la base del talud”. Y entre las cumbres
y los abismos, pueblos relajantes y un paisaje vestido de un verde inagota-
ble, paisajes nevados, escenas campiranas y hoteles de lujo. La sonrisa en
Asturias es una invitación a la amistad.

t an altitude of 2,648 meters, the Torrecerredo Peak ,in the Mu-
nicipality of Cabrales, is one of 11 peaks that exceed a height of
two thousand meters in the Principality of Asturias.
As a contrast to highmountains, this region has trenches as deep as
theAvilés Canyon, nearly 5000meters deep. Aplaque reads here: “Avilés
Canyon, a submerged valley that cuts across the plateau and the slope”.
It is the deepest in the world, ranging from 175 meters above the
plateau to up to 4750 meters at the base of the slope. “And among the
peaks and abysses, there are relaxing towns and a landscape dressed of
an inexhaustible green, snowy landscapes, peasant scenery and luxu-
ry hotels. The smile in Asturias is an invitation to friendship.

ing coastline has more than 1,000 islands surrounded by a crystal-
line turquoise sea. Croatiahas traces of a refined ancient culture, an
environment cared with attention and rigor, and a quiet population with
a smile like a sun. Stung by wars, invasions and integrations, Croatia re-
tained its dignity and its ecology intact. It is more than a country with a
