greso a la capital, nos hospedamos esa vez en el ho-
tel Grand Tikal Futura, un edificio moderno con lujo y
buen gusto al lado del centro comercial y con un buen
restaurante.
Aventura inolvidable
Al siguiente día, muy temprano, tomábamos el vuelo
que nos llevaba a Flores donde nos instalamos en el
hotel Villa Maya, hundido en la selva, a la orilla del
lago, observando los monos y caimanes. Seguimos
entonces nuestro camino para entrar en el parque
nacional de Tikal, una reserva ecológica de selva
tropical alta de la cual surgen las impresionantes
pirámides. Caminando por las veredas, descubrimos
cada una de las empinadas pirámides adornadas por
su templo de penacho agudo al pie de las cuales de
abre una plaza delimitada por los palacios, subimos
por andamios de madera a lo alto de ellas para do-
minar la selva observamos los tucanes, los coatíes,
todo tipo de pájaros. Sigue siendo una ciudad impre-
sionante que ha surgido de sus ruinas para maravi-
llar el mundo moderno.
Regresamos por carretera al siguiente día, atrave-
sando campos de cultivo que habían desmantelado la
selva, pueblos y ríos y nos encontramos con nuestro
barco al pie del puente que cruza el río Dulce. Nave-
gamos por el lago interno y salimos al mar para des-

Back in the capital, we settled at the Grand Tikal Fu-
tura, a luxurious modern building located nearby the
commercial area,whichboasts ratherfine restaurants.
Unforgettable adventure
Early next morning, we took the flight that would
take us to Flores, now staying at the Villa Maya ho-
tel, in the heart of the jungle, and right next to the
lake, observing caimans and monkeys. We then
made our way to the Tikal National Park, an eco-
logical reserve in which impressive pyramids rise
between the jungle trees. Walking through the dirt
roads, we explored each and every one of the pyra-
mids which would then open up to a plaza enclosed
by palaces. We climbed the wooden steps up to the
top of these pyramids that dominate the jungle
skyline and admired the various species of birds
that could be observed from these points. It is still
an astounding city that has risen from its ruins to
marvel the modern world.
The next day, we once again made our way back,
travelling through farmlands that were once part of
the jungle, towns and rivers and we found our boat
at the foot of the bridge that crosses the Dulce river.

to discover the lovely Livingston island, its crystal
