estilo colonial. El ambiente en Panajachel es de bares,
restaurantes, conocer otros visitantes, descubrir los
hermosos rostros de los indígenas.
Tejiendo el telar
En la mañana, el lago amaneció como un espejo, el sol
brillaba, el agua tenía unos colores de jade con una
transparencia cristalina y salimos del muelle del hotel
en nuestra lancha para recorrer la orilla hasta llegar
al pueblo de San Juan la Laguna. Las calles eran im-
pecables de limpias, el alcalde nos recibió para visitar
tranquilamente ese pueblo que está detenido en el
tiempo. Conocimos al pintor Antonio Vásquez que ha
creado un estilo propio y visitamos otros pintores que
exponen sus obras y algunos han decorado los muros
de las casas, dando al pueblo un aire vanguardista en-
raizado en su pasado con una energía creativa. Aquí se
permite convivir de manera auténtica con el indígena,
en un entorno ecológico equilibrado. Visitamos los ta-
lleres donde unas señoras tejían con el telar de cintura
unas hermosas y coloridas telas, otro donde se tiñen
los hilos y las telas, otro de plantas medicinales, otro
de pintura, cada uno nos recibió con la amabilidad que
caracteriza su gente, con cariño y sonrisa. San Juan es
un lugar de paz y entendimiento.
Nos detuvimos en San Pedro para descubrir un
mundo diferente, con su iglesia blanca al final de las
escaleras. Los callejones retumban con el sonido de los

Weaving the loom
At sunrise, the look took the form of a mirror, the
sun began to shine, and the water assumed a jade
coloration with a crystalline transparency. Soon
after, we left the hotel dock in our boat to travel
along the coast until we arrived to the town of San
Juan la Laguna. The streets here were impeccably
clean, the mayor welcomed us to peacefully visit
this town that seem to have been frozen in time.
We met the painter Antonio Vásquez who has cre-
ated a unique style and we visited other painters
exposing their works, some who have decorated
numerous facades, giving the town a vanguard
appearance entwined with a past rich in creative
energy. We walked through the workshops were
women would dye clothing, another were medici-
nal plants were grown, another which served as an
art studio, each one receiving us with the kindness
that characterises the locals. San Juan is a place of
peace and enlighten.
We stopped at San Pedro to unravel a different
World, one that features a white church at the end
